Embarking on a journey abroad can be a thrilling adventure, but it also comes with its own set of challenges and considerations such as the complexities of living abroad, particularly the emotional and practical aspects that often go unnoticed. While there may be moments of doubt or longing for what was left behind, these feelings are often outweighed by the learning experiences gained from living in a different culture.
Living abroad for 14 years has given me a unique perspective on the country that I come from. Even though I've been far removed from the goings on I've always kept up with what is happening there and have challenged myself on whether expat life is the right life for me, or would moving to the United States be a better choice. I believe it's important to take a look at the financial aspects of life abroad and in this episode, I'll bring up some comparisons specifically in regard to the cost of living in Portugal compared to the US, and the resulting implications for work-life balance. But as an American abroad, there are some elements I also can't help but look at such as the American work ethic, credit scores, and opportunities for small business. Yet while there are positives that are possible to look at, there are approaches to life I feel are more common to find among certain cultures. One such problem that unfortunately, I find more among many Americans is how material pursuits can overshadow some of life's most meaningful moments and details that can be missed. In this expat living abroad podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter hosted by me, Rafael Di Furia, will take a critical exploration of American dynamics from an expat's perspective.

Understanding how the various systems interact with one another can be crucial to properly navigating your business successfully through Europe. Of course, on top of everything, the manner in which business interactions are conducted can greatly influence the outcome of your ventures. The balance between social and professional interactions is a balancing act between formality and informality that I would say many North Americans should become familiar with and how business is done differently “across the pond”. In this expat business podcast episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter we’ll overview the entrepreneurial scene across Europe from a foreign perspective and compare and contrast entrepreneurship in Europe with entrepreneurship in North America.
