Do you have any breakfast staples in your house? Well Gemma has had the same breakfast for the last 8 years! Yes, you read that right! You could say it’s become a bit of an obsession, drinking her chocolate protein shake which she packs full of various goodies and which her colleagues have lovingly nicknamed ‘sludge’, every morning at her desk…it’s become her absolute go to, so she’s sharing her almost famous recipe with you all! Does anyone else enjoy their own ‘sludge’ for brekkie, or is it just Gemma?!
1 banana
2 cups spinach (fresh or frozen)
2 cups fresh romaine lettuce, chopped
1 cup unsweetened oat or almond milk (other milks can be used)
1 tbsp almond butter
1 tbsp cacao powder (this is raw cacao powder, not cocoa powder)
1 tsp supergreens powder (optional. I go between using Rheal Superfoods Clean Greens and a simple Organic Spirulina Powder)
½ to 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional and dependent on how sweet you like your smoothie. I do not add any as the banana adds enough sweetness for me, but this is completely to your taste)
Blend all ingredients bar the maple syrup in a high speed blender. I use a Nutribullet but any high speed blender will work well.
Taste the smoothie and add the maple syrup, if required.
