Being inside of a prison, inside of a prison, that's inside of a prison, inside of a prison is creating tensions and stress behind the walls. It's so bad that even multiple meditations do nothing to soften the edges of confinement during Covid. With nothing to do, no where to go, and no way for release, Bobby finds a small, tiny piece of temporary relief, but that relief has a price. It's hard, it's heartbreaking, and it is frustrating when family members on the outside hear the physiological stress that's mounting on the inside, and there's little we can do to help.  When the prison industrial complex does noting to help ease the tensions and stress, and in fact are actually adding to it, you'll quickly understand why inmates are frustrated & feel like rats in cages. Our words of encouragement and hope can't quite penetrate those thick concrete walls...walls that inmates aren't allowed to climb.  So, keeping true to our format...this is a real time struggle that's taking place behind prison walls.

Episode 35 - Parnall Makes Cents

Apparently the prison is using the Prisoner Benefit fund to pay for a new operational procedure for incoming mail. They should be using their operational budget but instead they’re taking funds away from the inmates. Money that was collected from over charging inmates for commissary items, clothing, iPods, tablets, and even the vending machines families use during visits goes in the Prisoner Benefit fund. As if slave labor wasn’t enough now they’re going after the money provided from family members.  The Prisoner Benefit Fund is used to purchase new basketballs, jump ropes, etc for the inmates, but will now be used to pay for the new mail policy. Is this even legal?

Being in prison, inside of a prison that's inside of a prison, that's in a prison...the feeling of being caged can be overwhelming at times. Compounded insanity from the prison industrial complex can get the best of us, and after all these years it's hard to ignore. Hanging on to some type of normalcy and sanity is getting harder and harder, but Bobby manages to see the prison it for what it is - absurdity!

If you thought slavery was abolished with the 13th Amendment you'd be wrong! Slavery is alive and well in America, just ask any prisoner. 

Forced labor in prisons has its roots in the post-Civil War Reconstruction period, when Southern planters faced the need to pay the labor force that had long worked for free under brutal conditions to produce the economic capital of the South.

Though the 13th Amendment abolished “involuntary servitude,” it excused forcible labor as punishment for those convicted of crimes. As a result, Southern states codified punitive laws, known as the Black Codes, to arbitrarily criminalize the activity of their former slaves.

Loitering and congregating after dark, among other innocuous activities, suddenly became criminal. Arrest and conviction bound these alleged criminals to terms of incarceration, often sentenced to unpaid labor for wealthy plantation owners."
