    Host: Debbie Antonelli
In this episode, of Nothing But Net with Debbie Antonelli, we are joined by Ole Miss Women’s Basketball head coach, Yolett McPhee-McCuin, or as she is more affectionately known: Coach Yo.
Coach Yo talks to Debbie about building her program in Oxford. Taking a team that had zero SEC wins last season, to a team that is the talk of women’s basketball coming off a late-season surge. She called last season a humbling experience, that caused her to cling even stronger to her faith and stick to her values, which in turn, she admits, made her a better coach. Her belief is in building something the right way, you can’t skip steps. In recruiting, she looks for players that believe in her, believe in themselves and believe in the vision of the program.
Coach Yo also talks about the importance of networking. She talks about the impact that Agnus Berenato and Dawn Staley has had on her career, with many other mentors along the way. She even shares a story about Debbie dragging her to a speaking engagement at a Final Four, when Coach Yo was just a young assistant coach. Coach Yo stresses the importance of her to leave a legacy and she hopes to elevate assistants on her staff in the way that her mentors have for her.
Coach Yo also talks about being a dreamer and a believer. Betting on herself, being passionate, giving her all in everything that she does and having a “No Ceilings” attitude that all has been ingrained in her by looking up to her parents. Her mother, who was a principal and her father who is a retired basketball coach, that still to this day is teaching young kids the game at the local park, named in his honor.
Lastly and most important, at the given moment, Coach Yo makes the case for why her team deserves to be in the 2021 NCAA Tournament:
    1. Eye test-they defend, they play a style of basketball that is fun to watch that fans will and have gravitated to.
    2. Trending up-They had a strong finish to the season, a season that included 4 top 15 wins.
    3. They have #TicketSellingPlayers like First Team All-SEC, Shakira Austin, SEC Freshman of the Year, Madison Scott with Freshmen Jacorriah Bracey and Snudda Collins, just to name a few.

    Host: Debbie Antonelli
WNBA Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, is our next guest on the Nothing But Net with Debbie Antonelli Podcast.
Cathy tells Debbie about when she first fell in love with the game of basketball. Growing up with five brothers and two sisters, there were many games played within the group. Cathy also gets into her time playing collegiate at Lehigh for Hall of Fame Coach, Muffet McGraw. She shared a few stories during that experience that would help shape her into the leader she is today.
She dives into her experience as commissioner, when her first year on the job she dealt with a global pandemic, coordinating the ‘Wubble’, helping out with the social justice activism of the players, as well as a collective bargaining agreement. The motto: ‘turn challenges into opportunities’ is a big part of helping her navigate through all of those things.
Cathy and Debbie also talk about what is next for the WNBA. Building off of the momentum from last season, making players a household name, creating rivalries for fans to enjoy and pushing forward with added implementation sports gambling, digital marketing and continuing to make the league more marketable and continuing to grow the branding and corporate side of the business.
All of this leading to the 25th Anniversary of the league where Cathy and her team hope to honor and celebrate the history while continuing to look towards the future.

Today’s episode the Nothing But Net with Debbie Antonelli Podcast we call the hogs with a big “Woo Pig Sooie” and welcome University of Arkansas Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Mike Neighbors.
Debbie talks to Coach Neighbors about his unique offensive coaching mindset, which he attributes to needing to be different and do things a certain way to compete in the Pac-12, when he was the head coach at the University of Washington and now as the leader of the Razorbacks.
Coach Neighbors talks about how he got his start in coaching as a high school girls coach who taught Chemistry and Biology and went 1-24 his first year. He also talks meeting Coach Gary Blair during a round of golf and that meeting led to him eventually joining Blair’s Arkansas staff as Director of Operations and from there he became assistant coach to Susie Gardner with the Razorbacks, and then as assistant to Kevin McGuff at Xavier before becoming the head at Washington. Every move he made was done so with the hope of one day, becoming the head coach at Arkansas, in mind.
He talks surrounding himself with greatness, where credits Coach Blair, Gardner and McGuff with helping him along his coaching journey.
Debbie and Coach talk a little more about his system. One that is fun to play in and players/recruits are drawn to. He talks about the importance of having an identity and their system is built around an identity that players want to be a part of.
This episode ends with a great discussion on education and growth. Understanding that in the game of basketball, ‘we are not playing chess, because there are no identical pieces.’ Coach Neighbors also gets into the importance of expanding your knowledge by reading, listening to podcasts, gaining a ‘rhythm to life.’
