On the podcast this week we welcome Brom Rector.

Brom Rector is the founder and GP of Empath Ventures, a VC fund that invests in psychedelic medicine startups.  Prior to founding Empath, Brom spent 7 years as a portfolio manager and quantitative researcher - most recently managing a global macro portfolio for Crabel Capital Management - a Los Angeles-based hedge fund with $9B AUM.

After leaving Crabel in 2020, Brom started The Integration Conversation, a long form video podcast that covers the psychedelics industry from an investing perspective. The research that went into this podcast and the connections it established laid the groundwork for what would become Empath Ventures.

Growing up in a military family, Brom saw the mental health struggles of service members and how those mental health issues impacted families. Seeing this first-hand gave him a deep appreciation for the healing power of psychedelics, especially as it relates to PTSD and depression.

Personally, Brom has been using psychedelics for most of his adult life and has found them extremely beneficial for purposes of mental hygiene, internal exploration, and perspective shifting. Brom is a staunch proponent of ending the war on drugs and making psychedelics legally available to all.

Brom was homeschooled and began college at age 15. He holds an M.S. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and is a CFA Charterholder.
