In winning the French Open, Novak Djokovic achieved a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title.
A feat all the more remarkable, as few marked out Djokovic, in the early stages of his career, as having the potential to become an all-time great.
Even Novak himself had doubts.
Indeed, by January 2010, following a quarter-final defeat at the Australian Open to Jo Wilfried Tsonga, Djokovic questioned whether he had the stamina to last the pace.
A Serbian doctor by the name of Igor Cetojevic noticed Djokovic’s travails and reached out to his compatriot in the wake of that gruelling defeat to Tsonga.
To this day, Djokovic attributes his longevity in the sport to Dr. Cetojevic.
But who is Dr. Cetojevic and what was the advice he gave to Djokovic that made him so admired by the future record breaker.
Some of the doctor’s methods have been questioned. And Djokovic’s stance on COVID, as well as vaccines, have been linked to his faith in Cetojevic.
What cannot be questioned is the influence the doctor had at what was arguably the biggest turning point in Djokovic’s tennis career.
