In Season 1, Episode 14: My Johnny Lies Over the Ocean, Jessica Fletcher dresses to impress for a cruise and also solves the murder of a successful doctor/businesswoman. JB joins her niece, Pamela, who has just been released from a sanatorium (sanitarium?) after the death of her husband by suicide and like all women who have undergone a major life event, all she needs is a girls trip with her aunt. Luckily, her aunt is an expert sleuth, so when someone tries to destabilize Pamela's mental health on board the boat, JB is there to protect Pamela and find out who the murderer is. We are also joined by guest stars Leslie Nielson, Jo Anne Worley, and Vicki Lawrence.

In Season 1, Episode 13: Murder to a Jazz Beat, Jessica Fletcher blows into the Big Easy and solves the murder of “genius” jazz musician using her extensive knowledge of rare poisons. She also reveals that "Murder on the Amazon" is the name of another of her best selling mystery novels when she goes head to head with a dismissive New Orlean's cop. And, despite her best efforts, and those of her new best friend and cab driver, Lafayette's, to be a shameless tourist, she does not get to taste gumbo, a beignet or drink a Hurricane on Bourbon Street. Quel dommage !

In Season 1, Episode 12: Broadway Malady, Jessica Fletcher reluctantly goes to the Great White Way where she becomes involved in (other people’s) family drama.  She investigates how a supposed drifter is involved in the lives of the ultimate nepo babies Patti and Barry Bristol, engages in some light ethical malfeasance by sweet talking privileged information out her tedious attorneys, and figures out how record video direct from the TV using a VHS player. All in a day’s work for JB Fletcher when it comes to solving a murder.

In Season 1, Episode 11: Capital Offense, Jessica Fletcher goes to Washington. As a personal favor to the governor, she is appointed as the acting congresswoman for the Great State of Maine. Once there,  she questions the efficiency of politics, discovers the power of scarves, reads a whole federal bill, oh and solves a murder.

In Season 1, Episode 10: Death Casts a Spell, Jessica falls under the spell of an ambitious young assistant, but not that of a hypnotist, when she travels to Lake Tahoe and solves his locked room murder. We also visit every room in the hotel, casino, event space, golf course, pool, gift shop, kitchen,  and rooftop that we can find in order to figure out who the killer is.
