  • The Adam Project

The new Netflix film starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, and Jennifer Garner is currently one of the most popular titles on OTT. The film tells the story of a man who travels back in time and teams up with his younger self and deceased father to help save the future. So here are some interesting trivia about the popular film, The Adam Project. Let's get going.

    1. The film was originally titled Our Name is Adam with Tom Cruise cast as the lead, all the way back in 2012. However, the project was in limbo at Paramount for years before Netflix acquired the rights in 2020 with Shawn Levy as director and Ryan Reynolds replacing Tom Cruise as the lead.
    2. In a particular scene, Mark Ruffalo’s character Louis Reed insinuates that he understood the reference seen on one of his student’s t-shirts during a lecture. The picture in the t-shirt is of actor Nicolas Cage but with actor John Travolta’s name underneath it. It is in fact a reference to Cage and Travolta’s hit film Face-Off, where they swap faces.
    3. This is Mark Ruffalo’s third film in which time travelling is involved. The first one was 13 Going on 30, alongside Jennifer Garner, and the second one was Avengers: Endgame.
    4. Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and Zoe Saldana have all portrayed Marvel superheroes. Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Saldana as Gamora. However, Garner’s role is probably lesser-known or even forgotten - she played the role of Elektra in the 2003 film Daredevil opposite her future spouse Ben Affleck, as well in the standalone spin-off film titled Elektra. Both films were unfortunately poorly received by critics and audiences.
    5. The Adam Project has paid homage to another sci-fi film franchise about time travelling, which is the Back to the Future trilogy. The dog in The Adam Project is named Hawking, similar to how Christopher Lloyd’s character, Dr Emmett Brown named his dogs Copernic and Einstein, after famous scientists. In fact, Lloyd makes an appearance in one of the promotion videos by Netflix for The Adam Project.

This film is trending currently on OTT, Catch it streaming exclusively on Netflix.

  • The Dropout

Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Now You Know , one podcast that talks about lesser-known trivia, facts and even anecdotes of popular films and shows. I'm your host Nikhil.

The new mini-series starring Amanda Seyfried and Naveen Andrews is about the real-life story of disgraced biotechnology entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes and her health technology company, Theranos. It delves into the rise and fall of the fraudulent entrepreneur who established the company at the age of just 19. The series stars Amanda Seyfried as the lead, while Naveen Andrews plays the role of Sunny Balwani, the former President of Theranos.

    1. Amanda Seyfried who plays the lead role of Elizabeth Holmes and Naveen Andrews who plays Sunny Balwani are very close in age to the real characters. However, the opening scenes featuring a teenage Elizabeth Holmes is a little out of place as a 35-year old Seyfried portrays both the younger and older versions of Holmes. The age gap is not as obvious for Naveen Andrews for his character.
    2. To essay the role of Sunny Balwani, actor Naveen Andrews wore prosthetics and added nearly 12 kgs to his body weight.
    3. Saturday Night Live star Kate Mckinnon was originally cast as Elizabeth Holmes until she dropped out in early 2021.
    4. Amanda Seyfried told the Entertainment Weekly that she had apprehensions about imitating Elizabeth Holmes deep voice, which, ironically, some believed was fake. She was worried that it would prove to be unhealthy for her vocal cords. However, her voice coach reassured her that she need not worry about any health issues.
    5. In an interview actor, Naveen Andrews admitted that he learned to adapt on set regarding last-minute changes to the script. He added that he was not very enthusiastic about the last-minute changes made by writer Liz Meriwether, but his younger co-star Amanda Seyfried encouraged him to be more open about the idea. Something which he says he is thankful for.

  • The Batman

Welcome to OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that talks about lesser-known trivia, facts and even anecdotes from popular shows and films. I'm your host Nikhil

The world’s most popular superhero, Batman, is set for a new iteration. The new film, titled The Batman, is directed by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson playing the titular character as the ‘Caped Crusader’. The film also stars Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farell, Paul Dano, Jeffery Wright, and Andy Serkis. The story will focus on a younger version of the dark knight and will be a gritty noir detective film. The movie is set to hit theatres this weekend.

    1. While auditioning for The Batman Robert Pattinson was filming for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. Pattinson decided to keep the fact that he was auditioning to play Batman a secret, including Nolan, a former Batman director. So Pattinson lied to Nolan to get a day off from work. But Nolan was already aware of the fact and even congratulated Pattinson on getting the role even before Pattinson had informed the news to anyone.
    2. Robert Pattinson was a massive fan of Batman growing up. He admitted that he has been to every Batman movie on its opening weekend.
    3. The one advice both Zoë Kravitz and Robert Pattinson received from iconic actors who previously played Catwoman and Batman were identical. Michelle Pfeiffer who played Catwoman in Tim Burton’s Batman films, and Christian Bale who played Batman in Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy told the new stars to make sure their new suits had zippers so that it was easier to go to the bathroom in their suits.
    4. The real-life serial killer the Zodiac killer was the inspiration behind Matt Reeves’ version of the Riddler. The serial killer in fact featured in the 2007 David Fincher film Zodiac starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. Moreover, Jake Gyllenhaal was rumored to play Batman before Ben Affleck was cast to replace Christian Bale.
    5. Robert Pattinson auditioned for the role using two different Batman suits, the main body was Val Kilmer’s suit while the cowl was  George Clooney’s. This was because Pattinson's head couldn’t fit into Kilmer’s cowl.
    6. Both Robert Pattinson and his character Bruce Wayne/Batman share the same middle name, which is Thomas.
    7. For his role as the Penguin, Colin Farrell wore makeup and a fat suit that contained six pieces of facial prosthetics. The crew used strong flashlights to check if there were any uneven seams. To test the costume Farrell even went into a local Starbucks and no one recognised him.
    8. Robert Pattinson listened to symphonies or heavy metal while preparing himself on set before a scene to play Batman. He mainly listened to Bach and Wagner.

      9. The Batman is slated to release in theaters this weekend.

    9. Inventing Anna

Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that talks about lesser-known trivia, facts about your favorite shows and films. I'm your host Nikhil

Created by Shonda Rhimes, Inventing Anna is a Netflix drama series based on the fraudster, Anna Sorokin, who swindled money from banks and investors posing as a wealthy heiress. The show stars Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky in lead roles and is currently one of the most popular shows on Netflix.  Lucy Mangan of The Guardian stated in her review of the series, quote-unquote, “It may have more heft than it initially appears, but it is played essentially as a modern soap opera – and God, is it fun”. Let's dig into some trivia now.

      1.  Star of the TV series Ozark, Julia Garner, had an unconventional auditioning process for Inventing Anna. She just had a meeting with creator Shonda Rhimes instead of an actual audition.
      2.  According to Julia Garner, who plays the lead as Anna ‘Delvey’ Sorokin, she found the real Anna very likeable and charming when Garner visited her in prison to research the character for the series.
      3. To perfect Anna Delvey’s accent, Julia Garner spent time learning the German and Russian accents and mixed them together. She also added a few elements of the American accent as well because Anna Delvey lived in New York for several years.
      4. The actors who played the roles of the Scriberia journalist group, comprising of Jeff Perry, Anna Deavere Smith, Terry Kinney, and Anna Chlumsky, used their spare time in between scenes to play various theatre games.
      5. The Scriberia journalist group was the centre of comedic relief through the series, and actor Anna Chlumsky said that it was endearing that the series focused on her character Vivian Kent’s love for journalism.
      6. The real name of journalist Vivian Kent, who broke the story about Anna Sorokin, the character played by Anna Chlumsky, is Jessica Pressler. Pressler is also portrayed in the 2019 film Hustlers starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu. In the film, her character was renamed Elizabeth for the film, and she is played by Julia Stiles, and the film is based on her article.

        7. If you haven't watched this series yet then do so streaming exclusively on Netflix.

      7. The Book of Boba Fett

Welcome to OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that gives you all the trivia, lesser-known facts and even anecdotes of popular films and shows. I'm your host Nikhil.

The new Star Wars spin-off to The Mandalorian, despite its slow start, concluded its first season with strong viewership ratings. Created by Jon Favreau, the series focuses on the bounty hunter, Boba Fett and is set after the events of the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

        1. Temuera Morrison, who plays the titular character Boba Fett, in the new 2021 TV series, also played the role of Boba’s father Jango Fett in the film Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones released in 2002
        2. The notorious bounty hunter and Boba’s mentor, Cad Bane, is modeled after The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly character, called ‘Bad’, played by Lee Van Cleef in the 1966 film. There are also very obvious similarities to Snake Walker, aka Frog Killer, from the 1979 film The Muppet Movie.
        3. The Mandalorian and its spin-off, The Book of Boba did not use green screen or real locations. Instead, LED walls that are 20 feet tall are used as background projections. This technology is reportedly more convenient as it helps actors visualize the locations better than green or blue screens, and it also saves the hassle of moving the entire production crew to different locations
        4. Temuera Morrison has incorporated his Māori heritage and warrior spirit into the series through the Tusken Raiders, settled in the ‘sands of Tatooine’, depicted in the show. The New Zealander who is accustomed to the haka warrior dance is said to have paid homage to it as well in the series.
        5. The dog droids shown in the first episode of the series are neither CGI rendered nor props created for the series. These are real robotic dogs created by Boston Dynamics called ‘Spot’ robots.
        6. Similarly, the character Mayor Mok Shaiz, voiced by one of the show’s lead directors Robert Rodriguez, is not a CGI rendered character. Mok Shaiz is an animatronic creation similar to how Steven Speilberg created the Tyrannosaurus Rex in Jurassic Park, which remains the largest animatronic ever built.
        7. Temuera Morrison's stand-in, referred to as Jimmy, performed several voices in the series, especially during the scenes involving the cousins of Jabba the Hutt called the Twins.

        8. Doctor Strange

Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that gives you all the lesser-known trivia, facts and even anecdotes of popular films and shows. I'm your host Nikhil

Doctor Stephen Strange is set to return to the silver screens this summer in the highly anticipated Marvel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So here are some trivia and lesser-known facts about Benedict Cumberbatch’s first outing as the Sorcerer Supreme in the 2016 film, Doctor Strange. Let's kickstart the trivia

          1. The unique mirror dimension scenes in the film confused actor Mads Mikkelsen, as the overwhelming use of CGI made him lose track of how to perform certain scenes.
          2. At approximately one hour and 28 minutes into the runtime, the Cloak of Levitation wipes away Stephen Strange’s tears. This was not originally part of the script until Benedict Cumberbatch suggested it. The writers went along with it as they believed it elevated the scene.
          3. The scene where Rachel McAdams is startled and frightened by a mop falling whilst inside a broom closet was genuine as it fell down by accident. As McAdams stayed in character throughout the scene, the film’s director Scott Derrickson decided to include it in the final cut of the film.
          4. Benedict Cumberbatch had initially dropped out from the project due to scheduling conflicts with his theatrical work for William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. The role was then offered to Joaquin Phoenix, but Phoenix turned it down as he did not want to commit to a multi-film deal. However, as the film was delayed by a few months Cumberbatch returned to sign the deal with Marvel Studios and Disney, and the rest as they say is history. His character has essentially replaced Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man as the new face of the MCU, especially after playing important roles in the recent What if…? animated series and Spider-Man: No Way Home. His upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could potentially set the tone for Marvel's films for the next decade by introducing new Marvel characters and the much-anticipated introduction of the X-Men into the MCU.
          5. Benedict Cumberbatch once walked into a comic book store in his full Doctor Strange costume to buy a Doctor Strange comic book while filming was still going on.
          6. Steve Ditko, the creator of Doctor Strange, modelled Doctor Strange’s look after Hollywood actor Vincent Price. In fact, Doctor Strange’s full name is Stephen Vincent Strange.
          7. Steve Ditko’s inspiration for the design of the Eye of Agamotto was from The All-Seeing Eye of the Buddha. The symbol’s origins are from Nepal as it is believed to safeguard the wearer from the forces of evil, and it is known as the Amulet of Snail Martyrs by Buddhists.
          8. Rachel McAdams was Jon Favreau’s first choice to play Pepper Potts in the 2008 film Iron Man, but she declined the role and Gwyenth Paltrov was eventually cast for the part. However, the rise in popularity of Marvel films over the years compelled McAdams to change her stance and she signed a multi-film deal with the studio to play the role of Dr Christine Palmer.
          9. The son and daughter of legendary British actress Tilda Swinton, who plays the role of Doctor Strange’s mentor, The Ancient One, worked on various departments of the film’s production. Her son, Xavier, worked in the art department, while her daughter, Honor,  was part of the costume department.

        9. Dune (pegged to most Oscar nominations)

Welcome to OTTplay Now you Know, one podcast that gives you all the trivia, lesser-known facts and anecdotes of popular films and shows, I'm your host Nikhil.

Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster sci-fi space odyssey, Dune, received a whopping 10 nominations for the Oscars including Best Picture. Based on the trilogy of novels by Frank Herbert, Villeneuve has crafted a film with stunning visuals, vibrant music, and engrossing screenplay. The film’s star-studded ensemble adds to the overall quality of the film. Let's check out some trivia.

          1. Director Denis Villeneuve declined the opportunity to direct the 2021 Bond film No Time to Die so that he can work on Dune - a project that has always been his dream. Similarly, music composer Hans Zimmer turned down the chance to reunite with Christopher Nolan for Tenet so that he can work on Dune as he has always been a fan of the novels by Frank Herbert.
          2. Denis Villeneuve told the Empire Magazine that it almost took a year to finalize the design for the giant Dune sandworm creatures. Every detail from skin texture, to how it opens its mouth, how it consumes food, and how it moves through the sand were all meticulously designed to give it a prehistoric look.
          3.  Pink Floyd’s iconic number Elipse, composed by Hans Zimmer, prominently features in the first full-length trailer of the film. This was a hat-tip to filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky's attempt at adapting Frank Herbert’s novel into a feature film in the 1970s, because the filmmaker intended to use the band for the film’s musical score.
          4.  The movie does not highlight the genesis of the Great Houses. However, their names are hints to their origin on Earth. For example, Bene Gesserit, the matriarchal order with superhuman abilities, get their name from the Latin term which means “well done.” Similarly, the Atreides family has its roots in the Minoan civilization from Greece. The civilization's intrinsic association with the bull-type mythical creature Minotaurus is explained through the frequent callback to the bull imagery and the suggestions that Paul Atreides’ ancestor was killed in a bullfight.
          5. The helmets that were used by the Harkonnen soldiers were adapted from the head of insects.
          6. The Police’s lead singer Sting was asked to come on board for a cameo/minor role in the 1984 Dune (directed by David Lynch). But in the new 2021 version, the character met with an unfortunate fate with it being completely omitted.

            7. If you haven't watched Dune yet ,catch it streaming on Apple TV+, Google Play , Youtube.

          7. Reacher

Today’s podcast on the lesser-known facts about popular films or TV shows is on the new critically acclaimed Amazon Prime TV series, Reacher, starring Alan Ritchson. Based on Lee Child’s popular series of Jack Reacher novels, the franchise was previously adapted into an action film starring Tom Cruise. I'm your host Nikhil, Let's kickoff some trivia now.

            • Alan Ritchson went through all of Lee Child’s 24 novels on Jack Reacher as a way to prepare for his role in the series. Prior to the filming of the series, Alan Ritchson weighed 205lbs but still had to increase by 30lbs to fit the look of the gigantic figure of Jack Reacher. In order to achieve that, Ritchson was provided with a continuous supply of food on set.
            • Oddly, the showrunner Nick Santora never once met Alan Ritchson (the main star of the series) or writer Lee Child in person. This is quite unconventional for a show of such a sizable budget and production value. Crucial processes of design, casting, even writing, were done over zoom calls. In fact, Santora was yet to meet Ritchson and Child face-to-face at the time of the first season’s premiere on Amazon Prime.
            • Author Lee Child, on whose Jack Reacher novels the show is based, himself makes a blink-and-miss cameo appearance on Reacher. He plays a man who briefly exchanges glances with Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher while he’s entering the diner in the final moments of the first season. Child had also made appearances in the Tom Cruise films.
            • The novels depict Reacher as being in the languages English, French  and German. He speaks or understands no other language, as per the novels. However, in the series  in the seventh episode, Reacher is seen interacting fluently in Arabic with a cab driver.
            • The casting of Tom Cruise for the 2012 film was met with backlash as Cruise’s height  5'7” and 79 kgs frame was significantly smaller than Lee Child’s description of the character with a bulking physique of 6’5”tall and 113 kgs. However, the new Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson,  stands at 6’2” and is closer in appearance to the character created by Lee Child.
            • Lee Child dedicated an entire paragraph in the novels to describe Jack Reacher’s unique footwear, describing even the finest of details, including the material, stitching, thickness, sole, size, color, and style. But in the new series he is shown to wear generic boots without any attention to detail provided by the creators.

If you haven't watched the series Reacher yet do so the newest episodes are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

          8. Hotel Transylvania

Welcome to OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that gives you all the lesser-known facts, trivia and even anecdotes for popular films and shows that you didn't know about. I'm your host Nikhil.

Today’s trivia is on the popular animated horror-comedy Hotel Transylvania. The fourth film of the franchise titled Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, was released on Amazon Prime Video in 2022. So here are some interesting lesser-known facts about the first film.

            1. In the opening sequence of the film, Dracula (played by Adam Sandler), tells his guests that the prestigious hotel was developed in 1898. It is also seen that Mavis’ mother was murdered by a mob in about 1895 (known from the family portrait that Mavis shares with her mum and dad when she was around a year old). The original Bram Stoker’s Dracula was also penned in 1896 and went into production in 1897. Hence, the narrative of the film tries to abide by Count Dracula’s actual years, as if the character was based on Stoker’s novel.
            2. Unlike most animated features, the voice actors did not record their dialogues separately. Genndy Tartakovsky made the voice actors Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, and David Spade record their lines together as if it were a live-action production.
            3. At  the 10-minute mark into the film, a scene set in Mavis’ room depicts a poster of Selena Gomez, stuck to her wall. Gomez played the role of Mavis in the film.
            4. Hotel Transylvania is a rare movie that features a reference to a song from a rival studio. In a scene in the Sony Pictures Animation film, Jonathan draws references from The Lion King’s Simba and Nala. The Lion King, as everyone knows, is backed by Walt Disney Pictures.
            5. Mavis was earlier supposed to be played by Miley Cyrus, but the actor-singer was replaced in the film by Selena Gomez. The change in casting took place after Cyrus got involved in a controversy surrounding a photograph, showing her suggestingly posing with a cake. The studio was concerned that the photograph would impact the family-friendly image of Disney.
            6. It is almost impossible to imagine Murray the Mummy as anything but the gigantic, globular mummy with a beaming grin and beady eyes. But the character was originally supposed to look completely different — tall and lanky. However, animator Carlos Grangel believed Murray could do with a makeover, and thus was born the version of the character as we know it.
            7. Pixar’s Monster Inc. and Sony’s Hotel Transylvania share a few common narrative similarities, and the most noticeable being the fact that the so-called ‘monsters’ in both films are terrified of human beings. It thereby subverts the idea of a monster.
            8. The story is set in the real-life historical region of Romania, called Wallachia. It is the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the real-life inspiration for Dracula. He was in fact nicknamed Dracula, after his father whose name was Vlad Dracul. Several myths about vampires originated from Romania and is one of the reasons why Bram Stoker decided to set his story about Dracula in the country.

          9. Ice Age

Welcome to OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that talks about lesser-known facts, trivia and even anecdotes of popular films and shows. I'm your host Nikhil.

Ice-Age has been by far one of the most well-loved animated franchises. With as many as five instalments, the films have been successfully drawing the old and young, alike. With The Ice-Age Adventures of Buck Wild releasing recently, here’s a list of trivia about the first 2002 film that charmed audiences worldwide.

            1. The animators of the film found it difficult to draw like children for the images for the end credits, so they sought the help of their own children to get the job done. In fact, the picture that Sid draws of himself in the cave is done by three-year-old Will Shefelman, the son of Dan Shefelman the story artist.
            2. Actor John Leguizamo decided to give a unique voice to his character Sid after watching a documentary about sloths. On discovering that sloths store food in their mouths, he decided to give Sid a voice that sounded as if someone was speaking with food in their mouth. He had initially come up with nearly 30 different voices for the character.
            3. The character Scrat is a fictional creature created just for the film, a mixture of a squirrel and a rat, and is voiced by the first film’s director Chris Wedge even though the character has no dialogue. The decision to have no dialogue for Scrat was made for comedic effect.

              4. However, in 2009 in Argentina, scientists unearthed fossils of a creature that largely resembles Scrat. It was eventually named Cronopio Dentiacutus, paying homage to the Ice Age character.

              1. Ice Age is the only film in the franchise that does not have the Twentieth Century Fox Animation Presents during its credits.  Although the logo was supposed to be made to look like ice, the plan was later scrapped. The bottom part of the ice logo features a trailer for the movie, but the movie itself carries the original 20th Century Fox logo.
              2.  In order to make the snowboarding sequences in the film appear realistic, animators who have experience with snowboarding were tasked to do the animation for Sid’s scenes with the snowboard.
              3. Ray Romano might seem like the perfect casting choice for Manfred, but did you know that a whole list of Hollywood A-listers was considered for the part, that includes the names of Robert De Niro, Johnny Depp,  Bruce Willis, Pierce Brosnan, Nicolas Cage, Michael Keaton and Sylvester Stallone, among many others.
              4. The makers of the film had considered several actors in the role of ever-happy sloth Sid before they zeroed in on John Leguizamo. Some of the notable names in the list were Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, and Danny DeVito.
              5. Denis Leary, who voiced the sabre-tooth cat Diego, confessed to Jay Leno in a 2012 interview that Diego’s character was initially written off from the film since he dies during the climax. But this treatment received extremely negative reactions when the children in the test audience got upset and burst into tears. Diego then, not only survived in the first film but has been a recurrent character in all the following instalments.
