  • Ep. 12: Nowhere No One Knows Where To Find You
    Can't believe it's finally here!
Nowhere No One Knows Where To Find You (the album) is available now where you stream music.
Thank-you so much for being here with us. We love this record and we're so happy we got to make it exactly how we wanted to. The only thing better than that is sharing it with other human beings, music makers, artists, poets, and general badasses. Thank you so much for being here with us, listening and letting our music feed your heart. We love that.

  • Ep. 11: Moonflower
    Under Pressure?
Moonflowers do things on their own time.
Unlike almost any other flower in the world, moonflowers don't bloom in the sun. They bloom at night.  They don't care what all the other flowers are doing.

  • Ep. 10: Gone Gone
Gone Gone was one of the first songs we tried to write when we started our do-or-die  recording project last winter. We had put aside the time and money to write the record of our dreams, and now, staring at a blank page, that familiar dread started to build up. Luckily, Jeff Tweedy appeared to help us out....

  • Ep. 9: To Be Together
Friends.Don't you miss those guys? Your friends... Just curious, on a scale of 1-10, where are you at with the whole lack-of-human-contact thing, today? And this song, more than all the others on the record, owes it's magic glue to our friends who contributed parts -- Matt Peters on the ripping bass part at the end, Julian Beutel on the wonderfully weirdly effected trumpet solo, Justin Alcock on the Mars-Volta-esque guitar response. Ian Johnson on the visualizer idea of bouncing our iPhone flashlights off of CDs to create rainbows on the ceiling. Takes a village sometimes.

  • Ep. 8: Italo Calvino
You don't always hit it with every book. Sometimes it's just not the right time in your life for whatever it is you've picked up. But hopefully, you get lucky.I was listening to the New Yorker Fiction Podcast in the bathtub on a cold winter's night and an Italo Calvino short story was meandering its way down the byzantine conduit of my ear. Suddenly I found myself in a surrealist state of a young love affair in a small antiquated Italian village between world wars, wondering what love is truly all about. Thanks, Italo.

  • Ep. 7: States Of Disintegration
States Of Disintegration is about bursting through the old and no longer useful to make room for the new that only you know you need. It takes a bit of work, but we can burst out of cocoons every once and a while.
In this episode we talk about drawing inspiration from our favourite songs, looking past the notes and rhythms into the essence of the song, the feeling it gives you, and then trying to recreate that special magic. We also talk about how we built this drum part one piece at a time.

  • Ep. 6: That’ll Do
What a week, what a week. What has been most shocking to me, in the the midst of this covid-19 crisis, is how our current relationship with media can mobilize the emotional state of an entire country in three days. For better or worse, despite attempts from officials to calm our nerves, hysteria has proven to spread even quicker than an unprecedented global pandemic. We are tied in. Our rationality surrendered to the device in our hand. Stay safe folks. Stay home, stay safe and stay sane.
We are going to continue releasing this new music despite the dramatic shift in all of our external lives. Today we present to you, That’ll Do. Continuing with the ground work laid out by Ca Suffit, That’ll Do sheds light on the other half of Slow Spirit. Made entirely by me (Eric), it represents the hidden design behind our collaboration. Also, the freneticism to Natalie’s cool, collected contribution.
It’s a short transitional piece in the scope of our new album, but if you’d like to hear more sounds like this, I’d encourage you to check out an EP we released a few months back called Warble.

  • Ep. 5: Ca Suffit
For the next two weeks, we want to take a quick look at the two shortest, and most drastically different songs on the new album. Living on the b-side of the new album, Ca Suffit offers a breath of fresh air, simply by letting Natalie’s voice and acoustic guitar stand on their own. A sound likely becoming familiar to anyone following along, as the origin for a number of different Slow Spirit songs. Next week we’ll turn the spotlight to Eric and his track called That’ll Do.
Join us as we continue to uncover the many dimensions of the Slow Spirit creative process.

  • Ep. 4: Woman
"Strong enough for a man, made for a woman" at some point shifted into simply, "Strong enough for a woman".
That's where I draw the line. There, right there: the moment we said, as a culture, "Wait a minute: Women's strengths are 100% real and worth mentioning." Even if it was just an ad for deodorant. The song we're sharing with you on this podcast - the fourth release from "Nowhere No One Knows Where To Find You" - lyrically points out the sometimes-invisible strengths that women bring to the world. Secret-ish powers that, if womankind were to abandon earth tomorrow, would surely leave behind utter and abject chaos.

  • Ep. 3: Paisley Pattern
Last winter, when this song was being born, it snowed terrifically. We couldn't leave the house for a while. And frankly, I was perfectly happy to keep it cozy for as long as need be. Emergency coziness procedures ought to be kept sharp in a place like rural Manitoba.
Paisley Pattern evolved out of that winter "keep-yourself-occupied-so-you-don't-freak-out" attitude, which is where I think a lot of Northernly art comes from. Manitoban artists generally have an opinion on the effect of terrible conditions on quality art.
You can listen to the formation of this little winter piece here.
