God told Elijah to anoint Hazael to be king over Syria and Jehu to be king over Israel.
God also told Elijah to anoint Elisha to be prophet in his place.
God was giving Elijah helpers and eventually replacing him.
Elisha never left Elijah.
God revealed that there were 7,000 in Israel who had not bowed to Baal.
The problem is that individuals are not God and don’t know the help they have.
Help in the Word of God
Encouraging listeners to open up the “help book” (the Bible).
Sharing Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, thou, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

The Fleeting Nature of Opportunities
Opportunities to be in God’s house should be prioritized.
Missed opportunities can lead to regret.
Example: Missing a chance to share scripture, pray, or encourage someone.
Opportunities given by God are not to be taken for granted.
Opportunities for Those in Need
Recognizing and admitting needs is crucial.
Overcoming stubbornness to acknowledge problems.
God is always on time and able to meet needs.
Example: Bartimaeus seizing his chance for healing.
Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus when he heard he was coming.
Bartimaeus didn’t wait, knowing the opportunity might not return.
Avoiding indifference and paying attention to God’s work.
Opportunities for Business with God
Some may be in the presence of God but not engage with the opportunity.
Privileges of divine grace are not guaranteed to recur.

We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.
Death is swallowed up in victory.
Encouraging steadfastness and abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that labor is not in vain.
Be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.
Your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Reiterating that even in death, there is victory and the promise of being caught up with those who have died in Christ to be with Him forever.

We will be caught up together with them in the air to be with Him.

Proverbs 18:24 and the Definition of a Friend
Proverbs 18:24 states: “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
A friend is defined as a person who knows you well and is fond of you.
This definition is applied to Jesus Christ.
Personal Testimony of Meeting Jesus
A personal experience at Hearst Chapel Baptist Church is shared.
The Locust Ridge boys sang “What’s Your Testimony?”
This was the moment of meeting Jesus and changing life.
Encounter During a Marital Conflict
A story about going to lunch with a cousin during his divorce is recounted.
There was an initial desire to find scripture to “burn her up.”
Driving to the lunch, the message received was to tell the cousin’s wife “I love you, and Jesus loves you.”
Despite this act, the cousin’s wife still wants nothing to do with him.
Qualities of a Friend (Jesus)
Close Acquaintance:
Someone who walks and talks with you.
Someone who leads through life.
On Your Side:
Helps through everything.
Knows exactly what you need.
Supporter:
A story about announcing the call to preach and going to Little Cove Baptist Church is shared.

The Lord told him to put the $20 in the offering.
After the service, received a check and someone paid back $150 they owed.

August 10, 2025On the Wrong Side of Jesus
Crucifixion and Salvation
Jesus was crucified between two male factors (criminals).
One on the right and one on the left.
Jesus was innocent, as declared by Pilate, but was crucified according to God’s plan for salvation.
One of the criminals recognized Jesus as the Son of God and asked for mercy.
The other criminal continued to rail against Jesus.
The criminal who asked for mercy was told by Jesus that he would be in paradise that day.
The message is a call to examine one’s relationship with Jesus and to seek salvation.
To not be on the wrong side of Jesus at the time of death.
Being on the Wrong Side of Jesus
The message explores instances in the New Testament where people found themselves on the wrong side of Jesus.
It is possible to be on the wrong side of Jesus, even after having been on the right side.
Through sin and straying from God.
Repentance and turning back to God are necessary to correct this.
The Wrong Side of Mercy
The story of Jesus healing a man with a withered hand in the temple is used as an example.
The Pharisees and scribes were more concerned with trapping Jesus than with the man’s suffering.
Being on the wrong side of mercy means being unwilling to show compassion or see the needs of others.
It leads to bitterness, hatred, and a lack of love.
It is possible to turn from being on the wrong side of mercy and come to Christ.
Those on the wrong side of mercy miss Christ and what their soul needs.
Alienation and feeling outnumbered are signs of being on the wrong side of Christ.
The Wrong Side of Grace
The story of the woman caught in adultery is used as an example.
Being on the wrong side of grace involves being guilty and condemned by sin.
Jesus offered grace to the woman, despite her guilt.
Conviction of sin is necessary to be set free by God.
Those on the wrong side of grace may leave feeling convicted but unchanged.
It is a conscious decision to remain on the wrong side of grace.
In hell, there is no grace.
Jesus did not condemn the woman but told her to go and sin no more.
It is possible to be a great sinner and still find salvation through God’s grace.
The Wrong Side of the Word
The story of the disciples in John chapter 6 is used as an example.
Many disciples left Jesus because his words offended them.
The Word of God will stand either for or against a person.
It is better to embrace the Word, even when it is difficult to understand, than to run from it.
Those on the wrong side of the Word will find themselves among the ungodly and wicked.
It is impossible to be right with both the world and God.
Jesus did not change his word to keep those who were leaving.
The Word of God has the power to save, keep, and set free.
Peter recognized that Jesus had the words of eternal life and that there was nowhere else to go.
Exclusivity of Salvation
There is only one way to God and to heaven: through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Being on the wrong side of Jesus leads to hell, a life without mercy, grace, and His Word.
Surrendering one’s life to God is necessary for salvation.
The story of the thief on the cross illustrates how to get on the right side of Jesus.
Believing that Jesus is the Son of God.
Pastor Tommy’s personal testimony is shared as an example of going from lost to saved in a short time.
Being on the right side of Jesus brings peace and assurance of eternal life.

God did not negotiate but waited until there was surrender.
The final response was, “God, I’ll do whatever you want me to do, but I need you to help me.”
God Can Use Anyone
God can use anyone, the least or the greatest, as a vessel, tool, or instrument.
Offer oneself to God, and He will use it.
Practical Application
To grow with God, give Him your body.
God wants to use hands, feet, ears, eyes, and mouth.
He will send feet to new places, give the mouth new words, and open ears and eyes to new things.
This happens when one lays everything in God’s hands.
The Meaning of “Present”
The word “present” means both to hold up for view and a gift.
God wants you to present Him your body.
Let God figure out how to use you.
God’s Goodness and Promises
God has lifted us from horrible pits, set our feet on solid rock, and given promises of heaven.
He fills us with the Holy Spirit eternally.
He asks us to give back what is already His: our free will.
Bring the flesh under subjection through godliness and moral living.

Yielding oneself to God is the key to peace.
This is a reasonable service, not above the call of duty.
It is expected of those who have received an eternity’s promise.

Proving God’s Will
Giving yourself to God will transform you by renewing your mind.
This allows you to prove what is good, acceptable, and the perfect will of God.
Many wonder what God’s will is for their lives.
God asks us to give ourselves up to Him every day.
Be a vessel that He can employ for His service.
Overcoming Conformity
We conform to the world by setting conditions on what we are willing to do.
Trust God and let Him do something with you.
He will not do anything that isn’t good.
Stretch out your arms in prayer and let God nail you to the cross.
Renewed Mind
In becoming a willing vessel, your mind is renewed.
You can see, hear, and feel again.
This is not just a Sunday deal but a daily practice.
Present your bodies as a living sacrifice daily.
Victory and Freedom
This practice will bring victory and freedom.
Dying to oneself is necessary to be truly free.
Give your life to Him, and you will know what life is all about.
He is urging us to take that step and let Him have all of us.

You will prove what is good, acceptable, and the perfect will of God.

Introduction

Many figures in the Bible received second chances after messing up, but some, like Ananias and Sapphira, did not.

If one receives a second chance, it is by God’s grace.
David’s sin with Bathsheba was forgiven after repentance, but consequences remained.
The child born of Bathsheba died.
The sword never departed from David’s house.
Grace makes second chances possible, as seen when God prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah and bring him back to Nineveh.
Grace and Reconciliation

Jeremiah could not resist God’s call, experiencing it as a fire shut up in his bones.
Paul’s conversion demonstrated the futility of resisting God’s will.
The Gift of a Second Chance
Jonah preached an eight-word message: “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown” (Jonah 3:4).
The people of Nineveh believed God, despite the message lacking hope or promise.
The Ninevites proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least.
The king urged everyone to cry mightily unto God, in the hope that He might turn from His fierce anger.
God heard them from heaven and saved the whole city.
Jonah, however, did not care that they received the gift of salvation.
Jonah camped on a hill to watch and see if God would actually save the people.
The revival in Nineveh was extraordinary, achieved through a simple message and a reluctant preacher.
One should learn from past mistakes and recognize the gift God offers in a second chance.
Jonah’s Unresolved Ending
Jonah’s heart reverted to its original state, as seen in chapter 4.
Twice in chapter 4, Jonah expresses a desire to die.
The book ends with God questioning Jonah’s compassion for a gourd versus His compassion for Nineveh (Jonah 4:10-11).
Jonah never answered God’s question, leaving the story unresolved.

Scriptural Reading: John 4:1-26
Jesus’ Journey to Samaria
Jesus left Judea after the Pharisees heard He was baptizing more disciples than John.
Jesus went to Galilee, passing through Samaria.
He arrived at Sychar, near Jacob’s well, around the sixth hour and rested.
Encounter with the Samaritan Woman
A woman came to draw water, and Jesus asked her for a drink.
The woman questioned Jesus because Jews typically do not associate with Samaritans.
Jesus told her that if she knew who He was, she would ask Him for living water.
Discussion about Living Water
The woman questioned how Jesus could provide water since He had nothing to draw with and the well was deep.
Jesus explained that whoever drinks the water He gives will never thirst again; it will become a spring of everlasting life.
The woman asked for this water so she wouldn’t have to keep coming to the well.
Revelation of the Woman’s Past
Jesus told her to call her husband, and she admitted she had no husband.

It convicts, restores, and revives.
