About NSU Nursing Students Community Health Projects

Norfolk State University’s undergraduate Nursing Program provides top-notch training that prepares its graduates to help patients and communities with their health and well-being. Part of their experience is a requirement to engage in a community health project. In Spring 2023, seniors in Ms. Sledge’s course worked with Dr. Felicia Mebane and Ms. Deanna Latimore from the Center for Public Health Initiatives at NSU to build knowledge and skills related to communicating with different audiences. This video showcases the resulting public service announcements, which will be aired on WNSB.

The Norfolk State University nursing program’s class of 2023 is proud to present its community health project. To help communities throughout Hampton Roads, each student created a public service announcement with tips for health and well-being. The students worked with a public health communications expert and a media expert to identify topics that interest them, write the appropriate length scripts, practice their presentation skills and voice both :30 and :60 second public service announcements. These PSAs utilize a combination of the knowledge that they gained from the nursing program at NSU and their passion for helping others.
The results are informative, creative clips inspired by the student’s experiences and interests.
