Jesus is going to Jerusalem to die. As he cleansed the lepers of their unclean status so he cleanses us from our sin through his death.

Jesus teaches us to think what more can I do rather than do I have to.

Christ is true God and the only way to the Father

Jesus gives the people bread just as Moses did. The purpose was so that they would recognize Him as the one foretold and would look to Him to be saved.

We see in this parable a warning against two attitudes both of which are sinful. On the one hand the sinful, wanton wastefulness of the younger son which indulges in sin is contrary to God’s word. On the other hand the puritanical attitude of the elder which despises all fun and even despises other sinners.

Jesus is our king and our shepherd. He protects us from all danger. He leads us to the pasture of life.

Jesus prepares and sends out the seventy. There is more than enough work for us all to do.
