Halemaʻumaʻu, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii – Episode 51 of lava fountaining at the summit of Kīlauea lasted for about eight hours on July 15, 2026.

A timelapse video captured the entire eruption from the V3cam positioned on the southern rim of Halemaʻumaʻu crater inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

The camera used to record the event is a pan-tilt-zoom model, causing the viewing angle to change several times throughout the timelapse as the lava fountains continued during the eruption.

Charlestown, Cornwall, United Kingdom – Fowey RNLI lifeboat crew rescued a man who became cut off by the tide on Polmear Island between Charlestown and Duporth.

The crew launched an inshore lifeboat on Monday 13 July after receiving a tasking request following reports of the stranded man. The rescue took place in a fresh easterly wind of 17 to 21 knots and choppy sea conditions.

The lifeboat approached the rocks while the crew planned the safest access point. Helm Boris maneuvered close enough for crew member Oli to jump onto the rocks and reach the casualty.

Oli escorted the man back to the drop-off point, where the casualty was given a lifejacket. Both then returned from the rocks to the lifeboat and were taken safely to Charlestown Harbour. The man was not injured.

St Austell coastguard personnel were also on standby at the top of the cliff with ropes in case the lifeboat was unable to reach the casualty.

Fowey RNLI volunteers said people should always check tide times and heights, watch for incoming tides, carry a way to call for help, and contact emergency services if they are in danger or see someone else at risk.

Kerr County, Texas – A Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle blocks a damaged roadway surrounded by flood debris as troopers continue supporting the statewide response to severe flooding.

Rio Blanco County, Colorado – A towering column of dark gray and brown smoke rises above the PL Gulch Fire, revealing the scale of the fast-growing wildfire burning across northwest Colorado.

The video captures the enormous smoke plume billowing high into the sky over a scorched landscape of ash-covered ground, blackened trees, and burned shrubs. Power lines and utility poles remain standing amid the burn scar as the camera pans across the devastated terrain.

The human-caused fire, which ignited Monday afternoon southwest of Meeker, has burned through pinyon-juniper, sagebrush, and grass fuels in rugged terrain. The wildfire has grown to approximately 1,580 acres and is 15% contained, with active running, long-range spotting, and torching reported.

A Type-3 Incident Management Team is preparing to assume command to strengthen leadership and operational capacity. Firefighters are working to contain the fire north and east of County Road 5, south of County Road 76, and west of County Road 3 while constructing handlines, reinforcing containment, and protecting nearby homes as well as oil and gas infrastructure.

Evacuations remain in effect for portions of County Road 5, and road closures continue for public safety. Around 125 personnel, supported by ground and aerial resources, remain assigned to the fire as gusty winds and possible thunderstorm outflows challenge suppression efforts. The cause remains under investigation.

Uncastillo, Zaragoza Province, Spain – Forest firefighters from the Daroca BRIF brigade worked throughout the night alongside Aragón forest fire crews to protect the town of Uncastillo from the advancing Orés wildfire.

Zaragoza Province, Spain – Spanish military personnel from the Emergency Military Unit continue working in Malpica de Arba to support forest firefighters and BRIF teams battling the Orés wildfire.

The Orés fire, which started around July 15, 2026, in the Cinco Villas region, has burned an estimated 7,600 to more than 12,000 hectares. Around 1,000 residents from Orés, Asín, Luesia, Uncastillo, Malpica de Arba, and Petilla de Aragón in Navarra have been evacuated. At least 10 homes in Asín were damaged.

Spanish forces are carrying out support and containment operations in coordination with Aragón forest fire services and BRIF teams as crews continue efforts to stop the wildfire’s advance.

Turin, Italy – Extinction Rebellion painted a Toret fountain in the city center bright fluorescent green to protest extreme heat waves and drought conditions.

The fountain, located in Piazza Arbarello and described as being in a state of neglect, was transformed with a bright green coating and the message “Heat and drought: those who govern leave you dry.”

The action turned the Toret fountain, one of Turin’s public water symbols, into a protest display against climate policies of the government and the Piedmont Region.

The fountain was also decorated with flower pots and cups available for people to use for drinking water. Extinction Rebellion said the fluorescent green color was chosen because it is associated with warning and contamination and has become a visual symbol of the movement.

The group said the protest was intended to draw attention to extreme heat, drought, fires, infrastructure damage, and pressure on water resources.

Extinction Rebellion also criticized responses to the water crisis, highlighting concerns about drought conditions, low river levels, and melting glaciers.

Iceland – The UK Carrier Strike Group is carrying out a historic NATO Air Policing mission near Iceland, with F-35B fifth-generation fighter aircraft operating from HMS Prince of Wales for the first time.

F-35B jets from 809 Naval Air Squadron are deployed aboard the aircraft carrier as part of efforts with Icelandic authorities to keep Icelandic airspace safe and secure.

The mission, known as Airborne Surveillance and Interception Capabilities to Meet Iceland’s Peacetime Preparedness Needs, is a peacetime operation unique to Iceland.

The UK Carrier Strike Group is operating under NATO command in the High North, Arctic, and Euro-Atlantic regions while demonstrating its ability to operate in a strategically important area.

HMS Prince of Wales is accompanied by HMS Duncan and RFA Tidespring during Operation Firecrest in the first half of 2026, showcasing the UK’s advanced warfighting capability for NATO and Joint Expeditionary Force alliances.

The operation and previous exercises with NATO allies strengthen collective defence, reinforce deterrence, and highlight the readiness of the sailors, soldiers, and aviators of the UK Carrier Strike Group.
