  • The form has been impressive as Newcastle are in the hunt

Newcastle United Women were briefly guided by Claire Ditchburn in late October 2025 before Tanya Oxtoby was appointed as permanent manager in November, marking a transition from stability to ambition.

When Becky Langley departed assistant coach Claire Ditchburn took interim charge in October 2025, supported by Peter Ramage and the existing backroom staff. Her short spell included preparations for the team’s trip to Ipswich Town Women after the international break, ensuring continuity and focus during a period of uncertainty. Soon after, the club confirmed the arrival of Tanya Oxtoby as permanent head coach in November 2025, a move that signalled Newcastle’s intent to push for promotion. Oxtoby described herself as “excited and honoured” to join, highlighting the ambition of a one-club city with a passionate fan base and stressing her role in building on recent progress. Together, these back-to-back managerial runs reflected Newcastle United Women’s resilience under Ditchburn and their long-term vision under Oxtoby, blending short-term steadiness with a renewed drive for success.

  • Becky Langley leaves, what the hell is going on?
The NFTV Extra lads would likely dive into Becky Langley's departure with a mix of shock, analysis, and speculation about the club's direction. Becky Langley leaving Newcastle United Women—massive news, that. She took the team from the fourth tier to the WSL2, made history at St. James’ Park, and now she’s gone just six games into the season with the team sitting ninth. Claire Ditchburn’s stepped in as interim boss, backed by Peter Ramage and the usual coaching staff But let’s be honest, one win in six after all that investment? The board clearly expected more. You’ve got to ask—are they chasing promotion or just chasing power? It’s starting to feel like they’re running the women’s side like a corporate ladder, not a football club. Becky built something special, and now it’s like they’ve pulled the rug just because the results didn’t come fast enough. Ruthless, that. Makes you wonder what the long-term vision really is?

  • Crystal Palace and Bristol City 2-2 draws

Newcastle United Women drew 2-2 with Bristol City Women, thanks to a dramatic late equaliser from Lois Joel. The match, held at Gateshead International Stadium on 12 October 2025, was a thrilling Barclays Women’s Super League 2 encounter:

Newcastle United took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Oona Sevenius, who had been lively throughout the opening stages. Bristol City responded strongly in the second half, with Rio Hardy scoring twice to put the visitors ahead. Just as Bristol City looked set to secure back-to-back wins, Lois Joel struck a long-range equaliser in the 89th minute, salvaging a point for Newcastle.

Early chances for Newcastle included a cross from Sevenius to Jordan Nobbs, whose shot went over the bar. Demi Stokes also forced a low save from Bristol City’s Fran Bentley in the first half. Bristol City's Rio Hardy showcased clinical finishing to overturn the deficit before Joel’s late heroics denied them the win.

Bristol City remain in 4th place in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2. Newcastle United sit in 8th, continuing to build momentum in their debut season at this level.

  • New era, new signings & lots of games: NUFC Women’s start to 2025 | PODCAST

Newcastle United Women kicked off their 2025–26 season with a mix of promise and setbacks, showing ambition but facing early challenges. Here's a detailed recap of their start:

🏁 Season Opener: First Match: Away at Nottingham Forest on 7 September 2025 at the City Ground. Result: A winning start for the Magpies, setting a confident tone for the season.

    🏟️ First Home Game

Opponent: Sheffield United on 14 September 2025 at Gateshead International Stadium.

Outcome: A frustrating draw, with manager Becky Langley calling it “perhaps the worst half of football” since her arrival. Newcastle struggled to break down a compact Blades setup and conceded a long-range goal.

    ⚽ Key Fixtures and Setbacks

Birmingham City (Away): A tough 3–0 defeat at St Andrew’s on 21 September 2025, where Newcastle were outplayed and failed to recover from an early two-goal deficit.

    Major Signings:

Jordan Nobbs: England international with 208 WSL appearances.

Morgan Gautrat: Two-time World Cup winner from the US.

Oona Sevenius: Finnish striker with EURO 2025 experience.

Femke Liefting: Dutch U-20 Golden Glove winner, on loan from Chelsea.

These additions reflect Newcastle’s intent to push for promotion with a more experienced and balanced squad.

Tyne-Wear Derby vs Sunderland: Scheduled for 16 November 2025 at St James’ Park. Last season’s derby broke attendance records, and this year’s promises even more excitement.

  • Colin Lock - A walk to remember

Colin Lock’s passing brought together a community that often finds itself on opposite sides of the pitch—but on this day, they stood united in love and respect.

Colin wasn’t just a photographer; he was the heartbeat of women’s football in the North East. For over a decade, he captured moments that might’ve otherwise gone unseen—volunteering his time, uplifting grassroots teams, and championing the game long before it had the spotlight.

Newcastle United Women, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and countless fans paid tribute to his legacy. His daughter Courtney, now a coach at Sunderland, shared how he inspired her journey and how his lens preserved memories for families across the region.

And in a beautiful gesture, supporters from both Newcastle and Sunderland joined a memorial walk from the Stadium of Light to St. James’ Park, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in Colin’s honour. It’s rare to see football rivalries dissolve like that—but Colin’s impact was bigger than the game. He brought people together, and even in his passing, he continues to do so.
