They share their thoughts on the session about what stood out and why it was important to have this particular conversation at the User Exchange.

Nuix security experts Chris Pogue, Ryan Linn, and Chris Brewer talk about their experiences and lessons learned from Black Hat, DEFCON, and BSides 2016, held the first week of August 2016 in Las Vegas, NV. They offer some thoughts on the security of increasingly interconnected devices, how the lines between the internet and real life are blurring together, and some advice for organizations that are concerned with their own security.

Information breaches are increasingly common. In today’s business environment, information is power, and those who control information have the most power. Bad actors are incentivized to break in, or recruit insiders, to steal data – to sell identities on the black market, as hacktivists to make a socio-political statement, as disgruntled employees and customers to get back at a corporation they think wronged them. Gartner analysts Ted Friedman and Tom Scholtz have forecast that “by 2017, 40% of Global 1000 organizations will have aligned their information management governance and information security governance programs.” However, this prediction raises a variety of questions about how and why such a convergence might occur.
