Amy Siple is back with a major victory update.

After being penalized by the Kansas State Board of Nursing for a missed license renewal while caring for her sick husband, Amy refused to sign a consent agreement admitting to something she did not believe was true. She was told the odds were impossible. She was warned the fight could bankrupt her. But through prayer, obedience, legal help, media exposure, and legislative action, Amy stood firm.

Now her case has been vacated—meaning it is treated as if it never happened.

But the victory did not stop with her case.

Amy’s fight helped expose a much larger problem: Kansas nurses being labeled “unprofessional” for clerical or de minimis errors, while that same label was also used for serious misconduct. According to Amy, two-thirds of Kansas nursing discipline cases involved license-renewal missteps. Her courage helped bring other nurses forward, led to legislative hearings, sparked an audit, and contributed to sweeping reform of the Kansas State Board of Nursing—including the removal or replacement of all 11 board members.

In this short interview, Jodi O’Malley, MSN, RN, speaks with Amy about what it felt like to receive the news, how faith carried her through the battle, why nurses must refuse isolation and shame, and what this victory means for nurses across the country.

Senator Ron Johnson, Chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, has agreed to open the Congressional record on COVID-19 hospital protocols. Every statement submitted will be entered into the official record of the United States Senate — whether or not you are selected to testify in person.But there is a threshold.
