RE: MAKING NEEDED PROVISIONS FOR THE STARVING NORTH KOREANS

 

Dear Friends,

I am hoping to meet with the President tomorrow, on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, during his visit to California, but nothing has been mentioned to me by my friends that would even suggest that it might be possible at this time. However, the situation remains serious due to ICBMs armed with thermonuclearwarheads are only less than 35 minutes away from striking the United States after being launched from North Korea because we do not have any effective Missile Defense System that could shield the American people from a nuclear holocaust.

If it were possible for me to be part of a Special Envoy on a preliminary mission to North Korea, I might be able to perceive some phenomena that might possibly be overlooked by all official personnel or staff. However, because I have never had the honor of meeting with the President face-to-face, I may actually understand Kim Jong Un better due to my earlier encounter with him several years ago. Unless, I should have the honor of meeting President Donald J. Trump, it would be difficult for me to answer any questions that Kim might ask me about him. So without having met him in person, I would only be able to convey my most positive and respectful impressions about him. If it would be at all possible for me to meet with President Trump during his forthcoming visit to California, I would like to have the honor of meeting at least for a brief period of time with him.

 

As a very goodwill gesture on part of the President, which would not be part of my original economic plan for a deal with North Korea, if large shipments of food could be sent to that impoverished nation at this time, it might help to improve negotiations with Kim during this coming spring. Based on information that I have received, the famine is now so bad in North Korea that soldiers have been ordered to leave their units so they might be able to find other sources of food because rations are now so low. Yes, I am aware of the possibility that only a marginal amount of any food shipment might actually reach starving civilians and the risk that soldiers would then take on an aggressive stance and possibly invade South Korea. However, at this time, we must be willing to provide at least some food to the starving before negotiations commence. Please share my proposals with your friends. JWS

COHN RESIGNATION OPPORTUNITY TO JUMP-START TRUMP'S ANTI-WALL STREET ECONOMIC PROGRAM

March 9 -- Contrary to the hyperventilation from major U.S. media, which claim the resignation of Gary Cohn is more evidence of the chaotic and dysfunctional character of President Donald Trump's presidency, a Washington insider described it is a major defeat for the City of London/Wall Street financial elite which have dominated U.S. economic policy for decades.  Further, he said, he is delighted by the news, as it opens the possibility that Trump can get back to the economic themes that helped him win the 2016 election.  In particular, he pointed to restoring Glass Steagall banking separation, and the prospect for a "LaRouchian approach" to infrastructure development.  Cohn, he added, has been the inside operative for those bankers and neo-liberal financial titans who fear Trump could follow the economic program outlined by LaRouche.  Reading between the lines of the anti-Trump media, it becomes evident that this is the real reason Cohn's departure is causing so much angst on Wall Street.

 

Cohn, who served as the Chair of the National Economic Council, resigned in opposition to the tariffs on steel and aluminum imports announced by Trump earlier in the week.  The {New York Times} on March 6 identified Cohn as the "strongest voice for free trade in Trump's inner circle," writing that, though a Democrat, he "served as a proxy for the business wing of the Republican Party" -- a reference to the fact that among Cohn's closest allies in the fight to prevent Trump from reversing the free trade policies of his predecessors, Bush and Obama, are House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senator Orrin Hatch, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.  Both Ryan and Hatch are Republicans.

 

More direct in its coverage, the Capitol Hill daily {Politico} began its article on Cohn's departure, "Wall Street is losing its main man in the White House."

 

Cohn came to the White House following a twenty-six year career with Goldman Sachs, most of it spent in its trading department, which had played a leading role in driving up the appetite for risky speculative investments, which went through the roof following the repeal of Glass Steagall in 1999.  Goldman's trading department was at the forefront in "financial innovation", a Wall Street term for creating exotic-but-worthless assets, which were then bought and sold, with a profit made on each sale by the traders.  This practice was largely responsible for the mortgage/backed securities bubble which crashed in 2008, wiping out hundreds of billions of dollars in pension and retirement funds, home values, and savings of small investors.   While its clients suffered the losses, Goldman and other trading firms were saved, with huge bail outs from the U.S. government and the Federal Reserve.  Cohn was the #2 man at Goldman when he left the firm, to work at the White House.

 

COHN VERSUS TRUMP

During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly bashed Wall Street for the speculative excesses which led to the 2008 Crash, accusing both parties of doing Wall Street's bidding in return for campaign cash.  He attacked the bailout policies of Bush and Obama, insisting that his Party's Platform include restoring Glass Steagall banking separation.  In the last weeks of his campaign, this promise became more prominent, as he made the contrast with Hillary Clinton, who said she would never even consider bringing back Glass Steagall.  Further, Trump also promised "HUGE" investments in modernizin...

In 1812, Massachusetts governor Elbridge Gerry tried rigging elections by redrawing district boundaries so his Democratic-Republican Party (the forerunner of today's Democratic Party) would win more seats.  One such district was shaped like a salamander, which critics called a "Gerrymander."

The Democrats ever since have used trickery to win.

Unelected Pennsylvania Supreme Court judges voted along partisan lines, 5-2, to control the legislature's power to draw congressional districts.  In 2000, Democrats tried to throw out overseas ballots by Florida soldiers, and the far left Center for American Progress this February proposed making it harder for Americans in uniform to vote overseas, because soldiers tend to vote as conservatives.  In 2016, Virginia's Gov. Terry McAuliffe issued an executive order giving votes to more than 100,000 felons, who vote up to 88 percent Democratic.

President Barack Obama, as Craig R. Smith and I noted in our book Money, Morality  & The Machine, broke all legal limits with his "Obamamander," in effect stretching the southern border of the U.S. to include voters from all of Mexico and half of Central America.  On April 1, California will begin automatically registering all driver license holders to vote and will remove any criminal penalty from non-citizens thus registered who vote illegally.
