Pastor Thomas is starting a sermon series on the ‘7 Deadly sins’. Prior to preaching on the specifics (2/9), he is doing a 2 week introduction on 2 topics that are presumed in the series. This sermon is based on I Peter 1: 13-17.
Intro: Without a grasp of God’s holiness, we would not know what sin is – God defines it for us
1. A prerequisite for intimacy with God is personal holiness (Heb 12:14).
2. “Salvation” is not the ultimate goal; sanctification is (Heb 10:14, 2 Cor 3:18; John 17: 18-19, I Thess 5:23)
3. When you think of words like “sin” and “holiness”, it’s much more than what you stop doing, it is an action word that requires our participation (I Peter 1:13a, 15b)
4. WHY this push for holiness and sanctification in us? Isaiah 6:1-7
5. How much does this issue matter to God / People? Num 20: 12-13Moses (outward) sin was disobedience, his deeper problem was irreverence and carelessness to God’s Word.
Conclusion: God wants us to be like Him!
