Jack Cerchiara joins us this week on NYSEA. He is the head coach for the university of Washington lacrosse program. We hung out and discussed the rise of lacrosse in the state of Washington. How the game can keep growing and what kind of struggles come with being a club team on the College and High School level. What does a college coach like in his lacrosse program? Coach likes Multi-sport athletes, leadership, accountability, etc. What does a high school student need to do to get better? We discuss it. We discuss the new rules in D1 lax such as sub box, Shot clock, and the dive. What teams does he like to watch play? Just a real cool, fun and informative time hanging out with coach Cerchiara. Guess who's back? Hey, it's Juan. We missed you the last couple of weeks. The NFL combine is back. Who's is and who might be drafting QBs? The XFL is back. Can they be sustainable? Will they have turnbuckles in the endzone? Can players power slam refs? I have a nickname for the Seattle team. The XFL is entertainment, but they have hired very professional people such as Jim Zorn. Will it work this time? We touch upon it. The Crusaders are a powerhouse program in the state of Washington, but their HC is stepping down for personal reasons. We talk Eastside Catholic football and we close our show with our story of the week. LeVelle Moton Jr. shows us why we love sports so much. We discuss this and more on this weeks NYSEA.

Our special guest this week is Bob Scanlan. The former MLB pitcher, San Diego Padres and Fox Sports reporter joined us for a really fun and informative show. We get into the impact and importance of the Manny Machado signing with the Padres. All of the due diligence that went into signing a player like Manny and how this team believes that they are heading in an exciting direction for a franchise that has never won a World Series, but is ready to start building to a future that sees this team as a team to beat in the NL West for years to come.

We discuss San Diego's tremendous talent upside, starting with the fact that they are ranked with the #1 minor league prospect talent in all of baseball. Why Machado decided to move back to 3rd base in order to free up the SS position for Fernando Tatis jr. We discuss that. ON NYSEA LIVE!! Dave Banks calls into the show. Dave is the Executive Director of Seattle's Fellowship for Christian Athletes. He discusses his program and the importance of coaching sports the right way at the High School Level. Banks who serves as the defensive line coach at Seattle's Nathan Hale High School just stepped into the role at FCA a few short months ago. A longtime pastor, Banks played his college football at Marshall University following the tragic events that led to the movie "WE ARE MARSHALL." Dave Banks and his FCA program are committed to making sure the athletic experience reaches beyond the results on the field. He discusses his plans to support coaches and players to find a deeper meaning in their athletic participation. Talks about being a part of Cleats vs Cancer and the evolution of coaching today's youth and more. We get Derek Sparks on the phone and discuss the upcoming Football All-Star game on December 29th. I never get his name right and I have no idea why! Brain fart in effect. He's so used to it by now he doesn't even bother correcting me. Will, Dori and Juan welcomed the central character of H.G. Bissinger's best selling book turned movie Friday Night Lights to the show. James "Boobie" Miles who called in from Texas discussed the book, the movie, his career, and what he is up to today. Miles stressed the importance of education as the fundamental lesson he teaches young athletes he mentors today. Miles discussed football in all its aspects including football in Texas and what makes Friday Nights special. He also shared who his pro team is in Texas and who he roots for on Saturday. Will, Dori and Juan then then discussed the Mariners and the tear down remenicient of the Kingdome explosion. The Mariners have traded even the Hot Dog vendors. Apple Cup conversation revolves around the UW to the Rose Bowl and the Mustache staying home from the Heisman. The Seahawks big win over SF makes a rebuilding year a potential playoff year.

Following what may have been the greatest Monday night football game in history!! Will and Juan were joined by Coach, Mentor, sports advocate Scott Laigo and local community advocate Saul Spady to discuss the intricacies of the modern passing game, the dynamic young QBs in the NFL and "What can defenses do?" to keep up. If the day was not big enough, the Seattle Mariners traded their ACE James Paxton to the NY Yankees bringing up the question: "What is the Mariners Philosophy?". A "LITTLE" in state rivalry game (hint: Apple Cup) is taking place in Pullman WA. this weekend. The discussion focused on the legacies of Jake Browning and Myles Gaskin and the "Mustache" that has taken over the Palouse. Laigo and Spady then discussed the IMPACT each is having in our local community speaking about their respective programs. Scott and his SAAAdvocates program that helps parents and student athletes through the eligibility, recruiting and financial aid process from D1 to NAIA. Saul and his incredible impact and mission to continue to help the homeless in Seattle. Already having raised an incredible amount of money and have helped so many. What a treat for NYSEA to have had these incredible people be a part of our show.

The underbelly of HS sports, along with his first hand experience of that growing up and playing football in California. We discuss with him his controversy as a player and how and why colleges shied away from him. The author of "Lessons of the Game" gets into the untold story of HS football and how the student athlete is exploited.

More importantly we discuss the fight that his 18 year old daughter Ze’lee Sparks has gone through and how she has handled her battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her great, positive outlook on life and how she will overcome her bout with Cancer.
