Obedience to God is mandated in the Bible. There are hundreds of divine mandates about obedience. “For this is the love of God that we keep His mandates and His mandates are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). They aren’t hard. We are to obey God rather than men. Your volition is where you choose to obey or disobey God. Disobeying a mandate from God is a sin. Obedience requires humility and the filling of the Holy Spirit. A mandate from God is to “grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18).
