O'Brien & Doug episodes
- O'Brien & Doug S5:E5 [December 16, 2021 5 Favorite Country/Blues Artists]]
Send us Fan Mail
On this episode we reflect on O'Brien's birthday, discuss what we are currently listening in the way of "new" music, and expound on our 5 favorite country and blues artists. We are out of recorded Common Crossing songs so there isn't any original music on this podcast, but we climb Wall of Tunes to discuss a funk metal band with their own sound and one of the best rock albums of all time, in our opinion. #birthday #country #blues #extreme

On this episode we return to the Fun Dungeon for the first time in a month and are actually sitting across from each other. It's so refreshing because the conversation flows so much better. We chat about working in education; if you remove subjectivity and nostalgia, is their a "BEST" decade of music? We also play a Common Crossing original reminiscent of Billy Joel, and we climb the wall of tunes for an extreme talent who is probably the only guy we can call "blues pop." #fundungeon #bestmusic #johnmayer

On this episode we learn why the podcast has been on hold for a couple of weeks....O'Brien had the "rona" and, thankfully, came out on the other side of it. The new Beatles documentary "Get Back" is a topic of discussion as is the 20th anniversary of George Harrison's passing. We play a song about O'Brien cheating on his wife that is, of course, the stuff of fiction...and climb the Wall of Tunes for a splinter group from the Genesis camp. We're very glad to be back, even if we aren't in the same studio yet. #covid #beatles #getback #harrison #mikeandthemechanics

On this episode Doug talks about a crazy driver who forced him off the road and almost killed him....more Led Zeppelin "thievery".....we answer some Facebook mail and discuss the best bands or music artists to come out of the Pine Tree State....Vacationland....Stephen King's home....the great (debatable) state of Maine! We also play the only recording we have of a newer Common Crossing song (hint: it's live), and climb the Wall of Tunes to discuss a rock band from the early 90s who O'Brien thinks paved the way for Nickelback's sound. But he's not very smart. #LedZep #Mainebands #Firehouse

Welcome to Season 5! On this episode O'Brien reflects on his trip to Ohio/West Virginia where he moved his first born to start a new life. It was an interesting trip. We talk about our lofty goals for Season 5, a little plug about a new "single" on Spotify, the 5 things you may not know about Jeff Healey; plus, we play an original song that Doug didn't know he co-wrote, climb the Wall of Tunes for a non-hair band from the 80s and more. #roadtrip #brianmosher #jeffhealey #tesla

On the Season 4 Finale, we cover a lot of ground. Paul McCartney has been in the news lately, comparing the Beatles and the Stones...so we go there. We preview some upcoming music releases ABBA, Steve Perry, Sting, etc. thanks to ultimateclassicrock.com; We discuss albums that have no filler (you can't click through any tracks) that are essential for your collection; We play a Brian Mosher solo song that was the self-proclaimed worst song he ever wrote, and everyone loves it; and we climb the Wall of Tunes for a solo album from O'Brien's favorite guitarist. #MACA #Countyboy #Knopfler

Send us Fan Mail
On this episode we get to chat with the guitarist and songwriter of a band we love called the Dirt Drifters. They came on the scene over a decade ago and shortly after just disappeared. We got the scoop as to what happened to the band and what Jeff is doing these days. We also share the prayerful saga of O'Brien's minivan, play "Songs from a Hat" that include the word "Night" in them and showcase an old pre-Common Crossing song with prerequisite tape hiss. Plus we talk all through it so you're welcome. Find the Dirt Drifters album "This Is My Blood." You won't regret it. #dirtdrifters #jeffmiddleton #songsfromahat

On this episode we share some good news about O'Brien's adult daughter...discuss Metallica's new tribute album, which leads to an in-depth Metallica discussion. We also tackle some of the most recognizable elements in classic rock that you can hear a piece of and automatically know what song it is; we play an old "Blake Street Boys" (pre-Common Crossing) song that we found on cassette, and we climb the Wall of Tunes for a country rock band that was on the verge of superstardom....then just vanished. #metallica #blacklisted #classicrock #dirtdrifters

On this episode we revisit the idea of cover songs and "who did it better?" Then we tackle the 50 cover songs every cover band should know...and why. *chicks* There is no Common Crossing song of the week but we have plans to dig even farther back for next week. We climb the Wall of Tunes for a new wave punk artist from Britain who is something of an icon these days. #coversongs @elviscostello

About O'Brien & Doug
From the publisher's feed
Doug and Brian have known each other since junior high school. They didn’t become “O’Brien & Doug” until their widely popular radio show polluted the airwaves of their local rock station. Brian…
was "Chris O'Brien" on the air and had been in broadcasting for 25 years and Doug....hadn’t. They spoke to listeners on the air about what was important (Who was the best rock drummer? Should 80s movies be required for all high school students?). The magic continues in the O'Brien & Doug Podcast!
