On December 7th, 2022, Pedro Castillo announced he was dissolving congress and Install an emergency government hours before he was due to join an impeachment debate based on corruption charges against him. Congress refused to acknowledge his earlier attempt and an impeachment vote against win went successfully, quickly ending his attempt at a coup with his arrest, but the incident was quickly followed with civil unrest throughout the nation.
