  • Dreamcast 63: Treading Water
Until we can figure out a better night/day/whatever to record, it’ll be just RC & berselius gracing your eardrums for those who dare to listen. In this episode:
The stupid Oakland Athletics move that’s probably going to happen because Nevada caved and they’re probably going to regret it
The fun with the dogs and the atmosphere at Oracle Park even though the Cubs lost
What to do about the Cubs roster as they welcome back Cody Bellinger and trade season is coming soon (this was recorded on Tuesday night so obviously stuff happened since then)
Hoping the Cubs actually complete a sweep and can keep building in a crappy division and league

  • Dreamcast 62: That Milk Ain’t Clean
Rice, berselius, & BVS ponder the direction of these Cubs as they decide whether or not this year is a punt year or a go year. We probably talked about some of the stuff you were thinking, including:
    Unfortunate injury to Jacob deGrom
    Recruiting Shohei Ohtani
Why trading Marcus Stroman would be bad
Getting the kids like Matt Mervis more playing time
    Oh god that bullpen

  • Dreamcast 61: Not Mad, Just Disappointed
Rice and Berselius hang out to talk about the disappointing Cubs after an encouraging start to the season, when they went 14-13 by the end of April but finish May with a 24-31 record, vastly underperforming their Pythagorean record. We did talk about some of the new rules and the ABS system on the horizon, and just generally shrugged because they’ll either figure it out on this next West Coast trip or they won’t, it could go either way.
If you were wondering, this was the play we were remarking on:
Just your typical 4-6-2 putout. pic.twitter.com/tGlFcoQl6Z— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) May 31, 2023
The Cubs will play the Padres, Angels, and Giants this coming trip, and I’ll check out the series finale in San Francisco with some friends passing through town, so I hope they win at least that one.

  • Dreamcast 60: Growing Pains
Well kids, the Cubs just got swept by the Astros, and the last one was a full blown bullpen meltdown just like in the old days. Berselius and Rice Cube got together for a quick record during the game on Tuesday and the stuff we talked about reared its ugly head on Wednesday, though it was nice to see Christopher Morel continue to punish baseballs, and Seiya Suzuki got hot again.
    Topics tonight:
    Aaron Judge’s wayward eyes
Why the Cubs are sucking when they shouldn’t be, but they are, and it sucks
    Cameos from Berselius’ puppy
Allusions to the lack of situational hitting (yes)
Ponderings about the pitch calling and poor pitching performances lately (yes)
RC almost having a heart attack because Nick Madrigal hit one in the air

  • Dreamcast 59: Shrug Emoji
Why is it so hard these days for the Cubs to score runs, let alone win a baseball game? We did this yesterday on AC’s birthday where he got to tell us a little bit about his undying love for Nick Madrigal, and then we went ahead and discussed the rookies (well, Mervis is still here, Morel is back, and Amaya is off to Iowa for a bit), missed opportunities, and the Cardinals’ silliness with Willson Contreras, which sadly has not affected his bat, grumble grumble. We also touch on the future of this team as we slog through May.

  • Dreamcast 58: Next Starts Somewhere
Okay kids, we’ve made it to Opening Day. I’m very tired, but this is done before first pitch and you can listen to RC, berselius, BVS, and AC talk about how much the Brewers suck and the Cubs will destroy them in the opening series.
    Topics include:
How we liked the way the new rules played out
The strengths of the team and how to steal extra wins
The Nico Hoerner extension and what’s in store for Ian Happ
Plus cameos from AC’s kid and berselius’ puppy

  • Dreamcast 57: Into the Greg-iverse
RC invited the Gregs of North Side Bound to talk prospects in the Cubs system that is markedly improved from the last few sell-offs. You can find a better summary at the Podbean page along with links to their socials and website, but they will have some episodes of their own podcast dropping soon that should be fun to check out. Among the topics:
Cubs prospect positions in the various top lists
Evaluating elite prospects and how their skills might translate to the majors
    Way-too-early trade speculation
Probably still too early look at the 2023 MLB Draft
    Thoughts on the new rules
As usual I sprinkled in some easter eggs mostly to amuse myself.

  • Dreamcast 56: The Best We Can Hope For
Thanks to Smokestack for pointing us to the best possible title for this one. RC, BVS, and Berselius hang out to talk about whatever this team is right now and how we hope for some good fortune in 2023 with spring training around the corner. Among our topics:
Recent additions Eric Hosmer and Trey Mancini and their proposed usage
    Lineup tinkering
How the defense might be a market inefficiency
    Those damn projections
    Trade speculation
We also told jokes about a corn cob dress but decided not to include it to protect the not-so-innocent.

  • Dreamcast 55: How the Cubs Saved Christmas
Hey everyone, happy holidays! The Cubs pulled off a last minute present just in time even if it wasn’t our first choice in signing Dansby Swanson. Among the various fun topics from AC’s various very good questions include:
The fallout from the Carlos Correa drama session
How we feel about the Cubs as currently constructed
What the Cubs still need to do
    …and more!
Please rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and share us with your friends. Thanks for listening, and hope you get plenty of fun presents.

  • Podcast with Dreamcast
Rice Cube got some of us together to do a podcast! Hopefully this will also show up on the OV feed, assuming that the tubes to itunes etc haven’t been clogged with the dust of indifference.
