Dan, Brian, and Kortnie discuss what it looks like to "make fishers of men." When it comes to evangelism, people feel a lot of nerves. But there has been a real misconception of what evangelism even is. In this episode, we go a bit deeper into the subject of evangelism and how it relates to discipleship.
In this episode of A Deeper Well, Kortnie Heying and Pastor Dan Lacich discuss his recent sermon. When Jesus says, "follow me and I will make you fishers of men" what does He mean by, "follow?" Dan and Kortnie discuss this and more in this week's episode.
In this latest episode of A Deeper Well, we are discussing the first sermon in a three-part series called, Discipleshift. When Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John in Matthew 4:17-22 to follow Him and become fishers of men. What does it mean to follow Jesus? How do we go from being observers of Jesus to participants?
This episode we answer these questions:
1. When a Christian dies, does his/her soul go to heaven immediately, as I have been led to believe my entire life, or when we die are we in a holding pattern until Jesus returns? And if we are in a holding pattern, are we conscious? What about those bodies that have been cremated? I want to believe that those who have gone before me are in Paradise with Jesus. But, I have heard references in OCC sermons that that is not the case. Where was Lazarus during the 4 days?
2. What are the purposes of the sacraments? Why does Scripture command these practices and give such a serious tone about applying them in a worthy manner?
3. Once you have been baptized and accepted Christ as your Savior, even if you convert to another religion, do you lose your salvation? I was always told that you can never lose salvation once baptized and accepting Christ.
4. Should tithing always go to a church or can it go to support an overseas missionary or another ministry? What if it's only once in a while? I always want to help others but am unable to go above tithing at the moment so what's a girl to do?
5. Would it be possible to discuss amillennialism, pre- millennialism, post millennialism and any other millennialism I am not aware of?! I know it's a deep subject matter, and the most important thing is that we will dwell with the Lord forever, but this has always confused me.
6. In my religion history class, we are learning that the Bible isn' t always meant to be interpreted literally, and that many of the stories have a different goal other than to provide historical accounts (i.e. to show the characteristics of God). I have always had in my mind that the Bible is made up of many different kinds of literary styles, but thinking of stories that I thought might be historical as a story mostly just to convey the character of God is a whole different method of thought. How do I balance believing that the Bible is the direct word of God and the new things I am learning that what seems to be a historical account may not actually be historical?
This episode is a special edition where we get to hear Kortnie Heying story! Enjoy!
Here are the lyrics to her song.
It was dark and cold and lonely
It was never enough and plenty
It was lonely and crowded around
It was floating the sky and dragging the ground
My eyes were closed but open
My mind was still and in motion
My heart pumping with the blood of another
Running through my vein the life of a brother
Awake I was thinking don’t doubt
While I was asleep in the clouds
If I get home I won’t walk alone
Ill sing my songs so loud
Ill take your hand go wherever I can
I’ll sing my songs so loud
This time around
Life was great then without a warning
Day was night and night was morning
So weak and tired of the sound
Of my feet not touching the ground
Watching the world move around me
Then changing of seasons without me
Grieving and tears of loved ones around
I cant say a thing cant make a sound
Nothing new just another day
Surviving just to say...
This week we continue our Ask a Pastor series. The questions we cover are:
1. What is the Holy Spirit's role in our lives?
2. Why does it seem that the church is all about people getting married? What about those of us who are single? Singleness is not a problem to fix, right?
3. What about Sabbath rest? What does it look like to have a day of rest each week?

This week we look at some questions surrounding salvation and discipleship. We throw a bonus question in about moral law towards the end.
Why does it seem that some people can live a life of deep sin (murder, stealing, etc), yet at the end of their life they can ask for forgiveness and end up in heaven?
How should I treat a Christian that has been "following" Jesus for over 20 years, but they do not seem to be growing in their relationship with Jesus. How do I disciple them?

How do we balance emotions and logic in the corporate worship gathering? Is one more important than the other? How do we avoid manipulating people in the worship gathering?
Why do Christians gather on Sundays and consider this day the Sabbath as opposed to Saturdays?
How are the preaching topics chosen at OCC?

In this episode, we discuss Sunday's sermon on the topic of sacrifice. Going deeper from the Old Testament to the New we unpack the ways in which surrender is a requirement of genuine sacrifice and how a personal relationship with Jesus facilitates surrender. We hope you enjoy!
Does science disprove the Bible? Or does science prove the Bible? We talk this week about these questions and more!
