In-hand manipulation is the ability to hold and move an object within one hand. In-hand manipulation skills are essential to the handwriting process because they allow the student to move the pencil from the palm to the fingers, make needed adjustments to the pencil for writing, and turn the pencil from writing to erasing with one hand. In-hand manipulation skills are divided into three major categories: translation, shift, and rotation.

While there is not a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, there is hope in care and dementia prepared systems. Muscle strength of the hands and fingers increases
as children grow and participate in everyday activities. Activities such as climbing, playing with toys or scribbling with crayons all help to develop and strengthen the muscles of the hands and fingers.
Hand and finger strength is important as it is required for many everyday activities such as doing up buttons and zips, climbing monkey bars or cutting up a piece of steak at mealtimes. It also helps to develop the endurance to complete activities such as writing a full page.
Grip strength refers to whole hand strength. Pinch strength involves the thumb and index finger (and the middle finger if required).

We live in a time of unprecedented global migration. In some situations, families willingly choose to migrate with hopes of better futures in other countries or parts of the world. Others reluctantly choose migration when their ability to support basic necessities for their family members is extremely difficult and they perceive that other countries, more robust economies, offer better opportunities to achieve their goals. Still others are forced to migrate due to war, internal conflict, political or religious persecution, or natural disasters that threaten the health and safety of family members. Regardless of the impetus, families are on the move globally, a trend that will continue in the foreseeable future.

The Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) is a self-administered questionnaire that consists of two dimensions, one for pain and the other for functional activities. The pain dimension consists of five questions regarding the severity of an individual's pain. Functional activities are assessed with eight questions designed to measure the degree of difficulty an individual has with various activities of daily living that require upper-extremity use. The SPADI takes 5 to 10 minutes for a patient to complete and is the only reliable and valid region-specific measure for the shoulder.
