The Sligo-Drumcliff Municipal District has been described Sligo-Boroughs poor relation.

The comments have been made by outgoing Cathaoirleach of the Sligo-Drumcliff MD, Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy who believes that the area does not get the respect that it deserves.

Cllr Gilroy has also claimed that he only wore the chain of office on one occasion during his entire term.

Speaking to Ocean FM news, Cllr Gilroy hopes that things can be improved going forward and that all MDs should be treated equally, as is the case elsewhere:

It's claimed that some people in Donegal getting nothing better than bog water through their taps.

The issue is said to be affecting the townland of Leagan near Inver for over 20 years and centres on the local group water scheme in need of an upgrade.

A funding application has already been submitted for the area to be included in the nationally water programme but there's said to be little progress to date.

Speaking in the Seanad, Fine Gael Senator Manus Boyle says the water they're supposed to drink is black and in this day in age it's simply not good enough:

A Leitrim TD has claimed that there is too much emphasis being placed on what the economic consequence would be for the Republic’s economy in the event of a United Ireland being carried in a referendum.

Sinn Fein Deputy, Martin Kenny, was responding to comments from former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar where he said that he would “forego two years of economic growth” for the unification of Ireland.

There is particular concern locally on how such a move would impact the respective economies either side of the border.

Speaking to Ocean FM Deputy Kenny says that European intervention would address any immediate integration concerns.  He says since Brexit many people living in Norther Ireland regardless of religion believes would be open to the of unification for economic reasons.

Irish Rail is to meet with TDs next where the south Sligo Greenway controversy is set to be discussed.

It comes senior Department of Transport official's confirmed this week there will be no greenway developed on the western rail corridor in County Sligo.
