New research conducted by Leitrim County Council has found that Over 60 per cent of those born between 1981 and 1996 would think about moving to another part of the country.

The local Authority’s research was carried out by Bounce and reveals over a fifth of Irish workers are fully remote.

The survey, which involved interviews with 1,000 respondents carried out in March found 22 per cent of them to be fully remote and high levels of approval among those in a position to stay away from the office in the aftermath of the pandemic.

More than half of remote workers say it has a very positive impact on their work-life balance.

People also said they were better off financially when they worked remotely with 75 per cent reporting a decline in their spending and 83 per cent saying that not having to go out to work on a daily basis had had a positive impact on their standard of living.

Among millennials, categorised as those aged 25 to 35, 61 per cent said they were considering a move to another part of the country due to the greater levels of flexibility around attendance at workplaces.

Leitrim County Council Chief Executive, Lar Power says the survey's found other benefits to remote working:

There are fears that a new Garda Station for Tubbercurry isn't progressing quick enough.

A building for a new station was purchased some years ago however the project itself is said to have stalled.

Gardai currently stationed in Tubbercurry are currently operating out of one room with no current parking facilities.

Fianna Fail Cllr Paul Taylor says a staff change at the OPW could be at the root of why works haven't begun.

He's calling on Sligo County Council to seek clarity on the current state of play:

Funding has been approved for the first phase of refurbishment works due to take place at The Rocks at Gibraltar in Cummeen Strand.

A 50,000 euro grant has been allocated to these works from the Community Recognition Fund.

The Rocks are a Special Area of Conservation, which meant it was difficult for the council to secure funding for its redevelopment.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor Declan Bree said although it was challenging to secure, the refurbishment will be a welcome development to the area.

Leitrim County Council have been asked if there is a possibility of council staff assisting with the painting of the exterior of local authority housing.

Councillor Padraig Fallon raised the issue at this month's meeting of the Manorhamilton Municipal District of Leitrim County Council.

The Sinn Fein Councillor says that elderly tenants in particular are finding it difficult to paint their homes and he was looking to see if the Council were in a position to provide assistance.

As the demand continues to increases for 1, 2 and 3 bedroom Local Authority houses in Kinlough a local Councillor has called for preference to be given to people who have a connection with the local area.

Demand has reached an unprecedented levels in Kinlough in recent times for accommodation in response Cllr Justin Warnock has asked the Housing Department to accelerate the purchase of houses and the turnaround time of the local Authority's own housing stock.
