There is widespread shock in Collooney and the surrounding areas after it emerged on Saturday morning that the village's postmistress has handed in her notice to An Post.

The news comes as a further blow to the area as Coolaney saw the termination its Post Office facilities in July 2022, leaving pensioners told they must collect their entitlements in Collooney.

Collooney also saw the closure of the village's AIB bank branch in 2012.
