Do you have any memories from your childhood when you were away from home for a brief or for an extended period, and then the time came for you to return home?  Feelings about this may vary, depending on the kind of home you were coming back to.  But if it was a home where love is, then you may have been able to relate to a person in a Bible story who was happy to come home.  We don't know this person's name; we just call him "The Prodigal Son."  Today we are thinking together on the subject, "When the Heart Turns Home."

If you were to be asked to write on a piece of paper just one brief statement about why Jesus came to earth, what would you write?  Many valid reasons could be given, but what if you had to list only one?  Today's message gives us some insight of what happened one day "When Jesus Came to Jericho."  This will shine a bright light on the real purpose of why he came.

Football season is now upon us.  This is a source of joy to many fans, and maybe not so much for those who care nothing for the sport.  There are many exciting aspects to a football game, but one of the least thrilling parts of any game is the huddle - - where the players get together and decide what they will do next.  Have you ever thought what it would be like if the players just stayed there and never left the huddle?  Well, that's what the sermon is about today: "When It's Time to Leave the Huddle."

If you've ever been driving along a country road (not an Interstate Highway) and you come to a place where a railroad track crosses your path, you are probably quite familiar with a warning sign you may see there.  It has just three words on it: "Stop"  "Look"  "Listen."  This is also a message which God has for us so often in our busy lives - - - and these three words are the title of the sermon for today.

There is a well-known phrase which is sometimes quoted by those who have a word of condemnation for lazy people who sit around all day doing nothing, when they could be out working, making a living, and enjoying the "fruits of their labors."  These folks quote a Bible verse where the Apostle Paul said to the Thessalonians "if any would not work, neither should he eat."  But what about those people who are what we call "workaholics?"  What does the Christian faith have to say about these?  That's what we're thinking about today.

Churches today like to be known by some interesting titles: "The Community Church," "The Bible-Believing Church,"  "The Church Where Love Is," and there are some churches which like to be called (maybe with a note of humor), "The Church of the Covered Dish."  Of all the miracles of Jesus recorded in the four gospels, there is only one which we find in ALL FOUR of the gospels - - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Stay with us for a few minutes, and we'll find what that one is.  Want a hint?  The sermon title for today is "Food for the Hungry."

When we think of someone as a "saint," we usually have in mind someone who is super-spiritual, extra holy, or in the Catholic faith, one who has been declared such because of many years of service to God, even to the point of a miraculous event.  But in Paul's letter to the Philippians, he refers topeople there as "saints" also - - meaning all those who are believers in Jesus Christ.  Throughout many years of church history, there have been countless people who have suffered for their faith.  Are you one of these?  Our subject today is "Super Promises for Suffering Saints."  Perhaps God has a word of blessing for you today.

If you have ever traveled down a street, road, or highway and you have come upon a sign directing you to detour and go down a side street to your destination, you know the frustration this can cause.  People in church life sometimes get diverted and go off on side streets, rather than staying on the main road.  They put major emphasis on minor matters.  That's our subject for today, "Side Streets."  But God has something better for us.

The word "surrender" is not a popular word, by any means, whether it refers to an army, a prized possession, or even a cherished idea or belief.  In "The Lord's Prayer" there is the phrase, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done."  This has overtones of our giving up something, or surrendering.  Today we may find a surprising blessing when we surrender our desires to the Lord.  Look with us in these next few minutes how this can work.

The term "forgive and forget" is a catchy slogan, but when it comes to putting it into practice, that is another matter.  The subject of forgiveness is quite a difficult thing, especially when someone has experienced a serious offence from another person.  Then along comes Jesus, who says that we should forgive "seventy times seven."  How is that possible?" we may ask.  That is today's subject, so let's look at it more closely and see how it can work in our lives, even to bring a blessing.
