This is week 3 of the Sermon On the Mount Series. In this message we work our way through Matthew 5:21-34. In this section Jesus makes a point of going after the heart of the hearer.

In this second message on the Sermon On the Mount, we discuss a common mistake many make when it comes to their attempt to follow Jesus. Too many of us attempt to make our faith journey an outside in faith. We try to change by changing the external things (church attendance, language we use, how we dress, what we watch). Those are all good things but the ultimately leave us frustrated because real change is not outside in, it is inside out.

This message is a setup to the series on the Sermon on the Mount. It points out that we live in a copy and paste culture. During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus points out a specific group of people that we should not be copying.

When do we ever get more than we expected? Most of our experiences in life over promise and under deliver. Not God. He always gives more.

Relationships matter. There are people in all of our lives that caused our faith to increase. It could have been the person that led you to faith in Christ. I could have been the person that helped you deepen your faith in Christ. Being discipled requires relationships.

As believers, we are all given a spiritual gift to be used in the church for the common good. This message is an encouragement to utilize the gift God has given us.

It is what we do when no one is looking that determines the level of our success when everyone is. It is so important for believers to make sure they are committed to the pursuit of Jesus in our private lives.
