Paul shows this church that the source of all their problems was that they were divided. These cliques were teaching different things and practicing different things. This made it easy for error in doctrine, practice, and discipline to get a foothold in the church. Contrary to liberal Biblical thinkers, doctrine does not divide. Incorrect doctrine, like that being taught at Corinth, divides. But the true doctrine of the finished work of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can unite the children of God in a church.
