Jesus prepared His disciples for everything that is about to occur.

The introductory commentary today directs our attention to Jesus’ encouragement, teaching, and prayer.

Jesus tells them future things so they may have joy and peace—so they won’t stumble because of sorrow and fear. He encourages them by explaining how the Holy Spirit will cause them to flourish. And Jesus intercedes for them, ensuring God’s favor on them as they navigate the battle being waged in the unseen realm.
