sad

伤心的，难过的，令人遗憾的

I'm so sad (that) you can't come.
你不能来，我很遗憾。

feel sad 感到难过，感到伤心 = be sad
He's feeling sad because his pet died.
因为他的宠物死了，他很伤心。

He's feeling sad = He is feeling sad
die 死去，死亡，过世

I was sad to hear that they'd split up.
听说他们分手了，我很难过。
split up 分手，离婚，断绝关系（split 动词，分开，裂开。split 的过去式和过去分词都是split。第16课学过 AA制，均摊 split the bill）
they'd split up = they had split up
