Off the Altar: A Hare Krishna Feminist Podcast, Episode One: "If You Call Me Mataji and I Like You, I Won't Punch You in the Face."
Hosted by Kadamba Mala devi dasi
with guest Keli Lalita devi dasi
In our premiere episode, Kadamba and Keli discuss a wide range of topics related to feminism and the Hare Krishna devotee culture.
Keli Lalita dd was first introduced to Eastern philosophy and kirtan as a child at the Vivekananda Vihar in the foothills of the Catskill mountains, where her mother dabbled in spiritual life. She went to Waldorf School and was heavily involved in punk and hardcore throughout her adolescence. At 19 she moved into the Hare Krishna ashram and joined 108, which unified her diverse interests of music and meditation. She is the mother of three grown children and has spent the last 18 years teaching yoga asana, philosophy, and recently re-joined 108, the band that most allows her to express spiritual life in her best way – loudly and filled with emotion. She also leads kirtan and owns and operates Mantralogy, a record label that supports sacred music from all the worlds traditions.
