Off the Arrow Shelf

In this episode I do something a little different and record a shoot report podcast. Normally I write up a review of shoot I attend but I’m recording this shoot report as a podcast. Let me know what you think, do you prefer a podcast or like reading the shoot reports.

I discuss how the course layers coped with a small wood and keeping the shots fresh on a twice round 18 course. I also discuss their moving target and how they had set this

I hope you enjoy it and let me know your thoughts and remember if you do have any question or thoughts let me know, drop me an email on [email protected] or via the website offthearrowshelf.com

Enjoy your shooting and as always thanks for listening.

In this episode I ask you to consider using your vote, by going over briefly the proposals in the National Field Archery society round of voting.

For those that don’t know each year members of the society can put forward rule amendments for the larger membership to vote on. This year there are several such proposals and I try to summaries some of these and offer some thoughts and my views on them.

I’m not telling you to vote for or against any of them. What I am trying to do is encourage you to use your vote.

Also calling other coaches out there, what do you cover in coaching for improvement sessions if you offer them?

In this episode I offer some thoughts on the mental side of archery and how some of us, myself included have a tendency to focus or remember the negative shots or mistakes rather than focussing on the positive. So exploring the mental side of the archer triangle and offering a possible technique.

I’m also offering my thoughts on the new NFAS signoff process for new archers.

Happy New year to all listeners.

Here are some thoughts on how you can make your new year resolutions more practical and achievable. I talk about a coaching technique for dealing with your “demon or danger distance” and how you can adjust your practise routine to improve your shooting at that distance.

I spoke of NUSensei and this is his YouTube site https://www.youtube.com/@NUSensei

So the title of this episode might be a little confusing as strictly its the 86th full episode but the 100th podcasts as I have made some my mini episodes.

It is coming to the endo of 2023 and I guess it's as good a time as any to post a brief review of the year and to say thanks to all my followers.

I hope you all enjoy a great festive break and I'd like to wish you all the best for 2024.

In just over a week there is the AGM for the National Field Archery Society here in the UK. It’s the opportunity for people to contribute to the society and even if you can’t

This episode idea was partly inspired by Angel at High Power Archery and as I said he’s just put out a really good short video titled” Put it in neutral!” which I would encourage people to view (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgmT4j6O1E4)

I try to adapt the don’t be that guy that he is made famous to a “Be that guy”

Be the guy who offers to help or tries to help, offers a friendly ear or non-judgemental viewpoint.

Be the person at the club who spots a target face needs replacing and rather than just tell someone else or complains about it, but the person who grabs a load of faces and goes out and replaces them.

I use the phrase don’t be a Panda i.e. someone who Eats, shoots and leaves.

I also reference another podcast with is the Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and his episode with Arnold

No surprise that the subject of this episode is target panic. I talk about how it made me feel when it hit me at a local field archery tournament a few days ago.

This is partly a personal reflection but also I am hoping it will give some confidence to those who like myself struggle. How I used a few techniques to settle my nerves throughout the day.

Inspired by Angel at High Power Archery I try to adapt the don’t be that guy to a to a be that guy who tries to help, offers a friendly ear or  non-judgemental viewpoint.
