  • Author Martin M Roppelt Pays Us a Visit
Marty Roppelt was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He was brought up with Grimm's Fairy Tales at bedtime. Marty later ran across horror novels that his mother borrowed from the local library, by contemporary masters of the horror genre—Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub.   Small wonder. Marty's parents emigrated from Transylvania.   Marty's original profession was acting. He lived in New York for a while and appeared in a few shows Off-Off-Broadway at the Spectrum Theater, and as an "extra" on the soap opera, Guiding Light. After returning to Cleveland, he continued acting on stage, in local commercials and training films, and in feature and cable films.   Marty also worked a wide variety of day and night jobs. He has cleaned swimming pools, delivered newspapers, been a security guard, waited tables, and tended bar. Today, when he's not writing a new short story or novel, he works as a Starbucks barista. He enjoys finding ways to use his diverse life experience to enhance his story-telling.   A pet project involves St. Herman's House, a men's homeless shelter in Cleveland. Always a bit controversial, the home ran into bad press, through no fault of the men living there. Nevertheless, donations dwindled dangerously in 2011. Marty saw a financial need he could not fill. So, over four years, he wrote short Christmas stories which he published and sold online to raise money for St. Herman's. He continues to look for ways to help the home.   Marty lives in northern Illinois with his wife, Becky, and their eccentric cat, Fritz. Mortal Foe is his first novel.

  • Author Gary Starta Sits Down with Us Again
Gary Starta is a former journalist who studied English and Journalism at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. His love for science fiction compelled him to write his first novel What Are You Made Of? published in 2006. Inspired by Isaac Asimov, the science fiction novel focuses on intelligent artificial life and whether sentient androids should possess the same rights as humans. The androids in Starta's novel are created as hybrids - part machine, part human - further blurring the line between human and machine. Starta foresees a near future where humans will be forced to decide if intelligent machinery is indeed a life form. Possibly, in this near future, some humans will possess computer enhancements to overcome disabilities becoming hybrids themselves. The line between biological life form and mechanical life form continues to be examined in 2010's Gods of the Machines. 9 Incarnate, along with its preceding Caitlin Diggs (series) novels, Demon Inhibitions, Extreme Liquidation and Blood Web are reminiscent of the The X-files television/movie series. Contemporary authors Laurell K. Hamilton, Rachel Caine, Jim Butcher and Kelly Armstrong also fuel his aspiration to create paranormal suspense. Watch for Diggs and Shay books soon. Starta's crime novella ' Murder By Association' blends mystery with forensic investigation. It is a departure from previous books because it contains no science fiction or paranormal elements. Its follow up is 2012's Kindred Killers. Additionally, Starta foresees his 2008 novella ' Alzabreah's Garden ' - a fantasy romance - as another out-of-the-box effort.  Coalescence begins a trilogy including forthcoming Time Wanderer and Obsolescence. If you like zombies, check out Dead Market, as a vice cop battles the evil machinations of Big Pharma.
