Say it With Travel

Family trips have come a long way if you grew up in the 80s and 90s. There was a reason that National Lampoons was a movie that so many of us could relate to. However, as much as family trips have come a long way, so has your relationship with your parents. There is something about the family trip that is just different than taking your parents to dinner. Maybe it's the Coliseum as your backdrop, or looking up at the Sistine Chapel with Mom. If you stop to really think about it though, it's the extended quality time with your family. Even though women make most of the travel decisions, in the world of travel, it's a male-dominated field. In the hospitality industry, 2022 data from the Castell Project found that women held less than 10%  of hotel development and leadership roles. That statistic is less than women enrolled in business school, which is now at 42% according to Fast Company. A decade ago, women's overall enrollment was 34%.

So that point is that if you're a woman leader in the travel industry, you're almost as rare as a unicorn. Fewer than a few hundred pilots are actually accredited to fly to this country in fact. You fly through mountain passes where you can practically see into people's homes. However it's one of the most beautiful flights you'll ever experience, and on a clear day, you'll see the top of Mount Everest.

Another bonus destination is a place where a major event, in fact, the largest event of the year, will take place. Regina and Christine have the inside scoop of how to get the VIP experience in this classic city. In fact, there are special vehicles that will allow you to bypass all the traffic, and VIP passes to the baller hospitality suites. Biarritz, the lesser-known (French) cousin of Spanish foodie mecca San Sebastian.  Biarritz is located on the Southwestern coast of France, about 35 minutes from the Spanish border. This is a unique destination because the tourists who predominantly frequent the area are French. We know; it's a novelty as Americans take over France or any destination for that matter during the high season of travel. However, Biarritz is the rare low-key destination where you can still get an authentic French experience. 

There are similarities to its cousin, San Sebastian, but Biarritz is distinctly French. Mornings start with fresh baguettes that you butter up, or even just eat butter, in the morning. Meal time is an occasion where you sit down to multi-course lunch and dinners, versus San Sebastian where it's all about the pinxtos. There is so much to uncover about Biarritz.  Regina shares the inside foodie and art look of a destination that’s prime to put on your list now.

Overview

The Six Senses opens one of its first city hotels, in the Eternal City of Rome. Located  in an historic old palazzo that was most recently a bank, the 96 rooms are a modern enclave in the city. The spa is one of the most luxurious in the city, and is more a wellness center than surface-level treatments. The opening of the Six Senses is a gateway drug to the worldwide portfolio of hotels.

The Hotel: Islas Secas

The Location: Panama

Overview

You know a place has promise to be a cool hotel, when it's owned by a billionaire financier. Louis Bacon opened Islas Secas, which is in a group of 14 private islands in a remote part of Panama. The island itself is intimate, with rooms for about 18 guests. It's a Robinson Crusoe experience, but with rustic luxury and top food and service.

The Hotel: Nobu

The Location: San Sebastian, Spain

Overview

The famed yellowtail and jalapeño and rock shrimp tempura are landing in San Sebastian, Spain this summer. Nobu continues its expansion around the world, with its second location to its sister hotel in Ibiza. The hotel will have about 20 rooms, and will overlook La Concha Bay, which has San Sebastian's main beach. Expect Nobu's signature Zen and Japanese-inspired design aesthetic and of course, the signature Nobu restaurant. Essentially expect Nobu San Sebastian to be one of the cool hotels to stay at and eat at in the city when it opens.
