Meet The Beaver Builders, Episode 84 by Carrie Dils

I've long admired +Tom McFarlin for his commitment to sharing knowledge and passion for coding standards. He blogs regularly at tommcfarlin.com and is the brains behind the WordPress Plugin Boilerplate, an object-oriented code base for WordPress plugins. When he's not busy giving away his knowledge,Tom runs a custom development WordPress shop called Pressware with partner Andy Adams.

Join me with the founders of WP Ninjas, James Laws and Kevin Stover. We discuss how their WordPress plugin business "found them" and the lessons they've learned over the years. If you're build products for WordPress, this is an episode you'll love.

Guest Troy Dean and I discuss product launches, growing a consultancy business, and how to attract the right kind of audience.

Meet Rachel Baker, a seasoned full-stack developer and lead engineer at The WireCutter. She's well-respected in the WordPress community, has spoken at many WordCamps and contributed to WordPress core. In addition to being obviously smart, she's also a really nice human. I had the opportunity to meet her in person for the first time at WordCamp St. Louis 2014 and am excited to have her on the podcast to share her knowledge and experience with you.

Talking about the business of WordPress products with Eric Hamm, founder of Cobalt Apps (Genesis Extender and Dynamik Theme)

It's my great pleasure to have Jackie D'Elia on the show this week. Jackie is my first ever listener-turned-guest and tunes into the show faithfully, always asking insightful questions of show guests. In this episode, I get to turn the tables and do all the asking. :) Jackie's career includes some surprising twists (can I get a horticulturalist, an online retailer, or maybe a software engineer?); her latest adventures include running a freelance WordPress consultancy at savvyjackiedesigns.com, where she designs and develops some stunning sites for her clients. Join us as we discuss what it means to re-invent a career, generate business out of thin air, and find a home within the WordPress community.

Both Brian and Jennifer Bourn have been on the show before, but this is the first time I've had them on the podcast together. I've had the opportunity to sit down for a number of "one on one" conversations with the Bourns over the past few years and every time I walk away both challenged and inspired. The Bourns just celebrated their 10th year in business and they've learned most things the hard way over time. What they've learned though is the art of being intentional with scheduling to meet the delicate balance between running a successful company and being present as a family. Tune in for a truly enjoyable and frank conversation with the Bourns.
