OFR Season 11 (Episode 11) - Get off of my cloud

Tuesday, Feb 11th 2020 9:45 EST

Introduction & Roll Call: AA, Derek, Vladz, Whiskey, Bubba

(Feedback at [email protected])

* Got your head in the clouds?   * Phil set off a bunch of YouTuber videos and a Twitter storm stating that Google and Amazon being the “real” competition for Xbox "When you talk about Nintendo and Sony, we have a ton of respect for them, but we see Amazon and Google as the main competitors going forward," Spencer said. "That's not to disrespect Nintendo and Sony, but the traditional gaming companies are somewhat out of position. I guess they could try to recreate Azure, but we've invested tens of billions of dollars in cloud over the years." / "I don't want to be in a fight over format wars with those guys while Amazon and Google are focusing on how to get gaming to 7 billion people around the world. Ultimately, that's the goal."* While some focused on the first part of that statement, to me the important part is referring to their plans for their cloud and Azure for Project Xcloud   * Is Cloud Gaming The Future? * GTR - Ep 1000 - Interview With Phil Spencer On The Past, Present And Future Of Xbox with Phil Spencer * GeForce Now Game Streaming Is Live: Free Vs. Paid The service has been in closed beta since 2015 and it's now open to the public with two different subscription models, one free and one paid at $5 USD per month.* Here is Vladz playing the free version, without wifi on and crappy cell signal. Batman - GeForce Now as well as Destiny 2  Sweet!* Project xCloud Will Not Replace Microsoft's Next-Gen Console, Xbox Series X "We're not trying to tell people that xCloud is going to replace their console or xCloud is going to replace gaming on a PC or replace gaming on a Switch or something like that," Xbox head Phil Spencer told GameSpot in an exclusive interview. "But we do think that ability for me to take my gaming experience with me--so that when I log in, all my friends are there, all my games are there, my saved games are there... my Achievements, [and] my library is with me--is pretty critical."* Sony PS Now One of the biggest developments recently was that Sony cut the monthly price in half, from $20 to $10, to align closer to its competitors. There are three subscription models as of now $9.99 monthly, $24.99 for three months ($8.33/month average) or $59.99 yearly ($4.99/month average) * Console wars as we knew them are over *

OFR Season 11 (Episode 8) - OFR Feeling The Crunch

Tuesday, Jan 22nd 2020 9:45 EST

Introduction & Roll Call: AA, Derek, Vladz, Whiskey, Bubba

(Feedback at [email protected])

* Crunch-time Video Game Delays Cause More Crunch   * Cyberpunk 2077 pushed to September   * Cyberpunk 2077 delaying game from April 16 to September 17* Naughty Dog bumping The Last of Us II from February to May* The Avengers was delayed from May to September* Dying Light 2 is being delayed from Spring 2020 to ? * "We try to limit crunch as much as possible, but it is the final stage."

* Xbox Gaming across multiple devices, hardware, etc.  After articulating that vision for years, with Xbox Series X the company clearly realised that it was time to put up or shut up  * Sony has a different vision. PS4 Pro shows that it's perfectly willing to do incremental mid-generation upgrades, but it still believes in the validity of a more or less clean break between generations.* Sony is banking on this effect driving interest and early adopter sales of PlayStation 5. Microsoft's strategy is to eschew this effect to some extent in favour of the slow-burn advantages of a stable, steadily upgraded platform. This is a pretty major strategic gulf between the two companies which otherwise don't look all that different in terms of the hardware they'll be launching.

* You’ve seen it for awhile now on Twitter - “Exclusives!” It is the gaming equivalent to Crack. * SONY is going to try and help you break that addiction with Horizon: Zero Dawn reportedly coming to PC and Dreams and MLB The Show and looking likely for Bloodborne and The Last of Us 2

Our World (Top Things you saw, heard or played)  1917, Midway, Des Rocs & The Glorious Sons show with the Fam, Jedi Fallen Order, Netflix (Unbelievable, The King, Dolomite), COD CHIEFS BABY!!!!, reorganize the garage for new ping pong table, ridiculously cold weather sucks ass, new starter on my car (holy crap what a crazy couple days that was) You on Netflix finished, Home Free both seasons finished, American Horror Story: Apocalypse finished, no sleep cuz Far Cry 5, Otter ep 7 prep, OFR 491, workbench plans, Honda 250,000.  Cod. 2 gold guns on the way to 3 . battle tier 99.bunch of chick flicks.
