How do you create an entire language?

That’s the question at the core of this week’s episode as Cal, and our resident linguistics geek - Fañch – talk to Dr Paul Frommer (https://naviteri.org/).

Dr Frommer details how he was recruited by James Cameron to a clandestine project which ultimately resulted in the conlang (constructed language) Na’vi for the movie Avatar.

In the discussion, we hear how the language is more than just a set of words, what the real life inspirations were for the language, and how it is now a living, breathing, and continually evolving language that is growing in popularity across the world. Women at Warp Podcast co-founder, Kennedy Allen,  is the guest this week, joining Cal and Rhiannon (in her debut appearance in the co-host’s chair) for a hard-hitting conversation about fandom.

At OH!Cast, we like to think we are a very progressive bunch, and look to champion inclusion and diversity of voices. Not all fandoms work that way though, and geek culture can (at times) be a toxic pool of gatekeeping, and misogyny.
