It's Wednesday once again, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap another pre-season week for the Edmonton Oilers. On today's podcast, I discussed the start of the Oilers' pre-season schedule, the latest on Connor McDavid watch, Vasily Podkolzin's extension, and anything else that's happened over the last seven days.

With the Oilers' pre-season underway, we're finally inching our way toward the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. The problem, of course, is that we're still nowhere closer to a solution on the Connor McDavid contract situation. And while I'm still hopeful and confident that a deal will get done, I'd be lying if I said I didn't think this situation would have been resolved by now. Yet, despite the captain's contract situation lingering, the Oilers did get some work done yesterday with a three-year extension for Vasily Podkolzin. We're also starting to hear some reports that the team is getting close to an extension for Jake Walman, which interests me a lot because I initially thought they'd want to get No. 97 done first.

Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my Internet before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter this week, and as always, the messages were as fun as they were all over the map. The voicemail is always a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts.
