She has earned her bachelor’s in broadcast journalism, and has worked in communications, at non-profit organization, and higher education. S/ Dr. Phillip is a first-generation born Indian American and current a fourth-year medical student. Before medical school, she worked full-time as a registered nurse at University Hospital in San Antonio in the medical and transplant intensive care units, alongside cardiothoracic surgery and the cath lab. She talks about her experiences transitioning from different careers, how she came to decide on the DO route, and provides insight about how to stand out as a non-traditional candidate.

Her videos on tik tok explore the various schedules as a general surgery resident that rotates through different specialties. Today’s guest: S/ Dr. Reagan Loria

S/ Dr. Loria is a rising fourth-year medical student who graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Philosophy, focusing on medicine and ethics, and a minor in biology. She is a recipient of the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) and is currently an officer in the US Navy. As an osteopathic student, she is interested in osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), with multiple research projects about the utilization of OMM in the preoperative setting. S/ Dr. Loria will be the first physician in her family and is applying for anesthesiology for the 2024 Match. In her episode, she discusses the struggles of navigating these uncertain waters, including the unexpected challenges of the medical school application process, the MCAT, and more.

Out first guest is S/ Dr. Desiree Ojo, but most people know her as “Dez.” She is a graduate of Texas Tech University Health Science Center and has her Masters in Public Health and Public Administration. She was is a 2022 Rankin Scholar and is active with Nth Dimensions, a non-profit organization empowering women and underrepresented minorities in medicine. She is a first generation medical student in her fourth year of medical school and will be applying for residency in the 2024 match.

This is the introductory podcast to "Ok, But How?" (OBH)

OBH is a narrative style podcast that focusses on telling the authentic stories of first generation and non-traditional students and professionals. The first season will focus on medicine and we hope to expand the topics to other professional areas, such as law, veterinarian medicine, and more.
