On this very special episode of Okay Back to One, Nick and I turned on the mic while we drove back to LA after shooting our new movie in Idaho. Our conversation is a grateful love letter to indie filmmaking, the gem state and the amazing people that made it all happen.

Jamie Renee Smith began her acting career at the ripe young age of six and soon landed a starring role opposite Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton in the 1997 box office giant Dante’s Peak. And that was just the beginning! You may also recognize her from recent hit television shows as 9-1-1, Better Things, and Weeds. Jamie is also a sought after acting teacher specializing in audition prep and coaching. We talk about her life as an actor, how to direct actors and getting rid of first day jitters. Welcome to Season Two of OKAY BACK TO ONE!
And hasn't it just been one hellava back to one for all of us?! Nick and I are trying to get back on track with a micro-budget film we've been writing! Once we've shot it, we’re thinking of doing a crowdfunding campaign to raise the money for post. I’ve never crowdfunded so luckily my friend, Kelsey Jonikas, agreed to share what she’s learning running her first campaign right now. I first met Kelsey as the sound mixer on ARMSTRONG and so she’s also going to give us some feedback on WHAT WE GOT WRONG!
KELSEY'S BIO
Kelsey Jonikas is a union boom operator and utility who got her start in the film industry eight years ago as a bag mixer on independent short films and features. Now her resume spans multiple films and TV shows including Netflix's LUCIFER, ATYPICAL, ANIMAL KINGDOM, and GREY'S ANATOMY. In the past few years she has also branched out into the world of screenwriting and is currently in pre-production of her first short film LEVEL ONE.

It seems like we’re all counting days right now but I found a way to do it that’s actually moving my next project forward. Assistant Director Gary Cotti taught me Movie Magic Scheduling and he has some amazing insight to share about communicating with the AD department, marking your story days and avoiding the "Sunday Scaries."
In this episode I’m talking to psychiatrist and poet Dr. Monisha Vasa who has given me a new perspective on goal setting. Because right now we don’t have to be doing everything but we can move toward.
And stay tuned to the end of the show for an exciting update from last episode’s guest ARMSTRONG screenwriter Nick Rufca.
