美國人一發現待在原來的公司晉升無望，馬上就會換新東家，甚至有可能跳槽到原公司的死對頭。為避免蒙受損失，許多公司採用新人時，一定會和他們簽約，要求他們在離職後一年內不得進入敵對公司工作。在電腦業界，優秀程式設計師的挖角競爭比演藝圈更激烈。英國人則和美國人不同，他們一旦進入某家公司，往往會待上一輩子，比較少有跳槽的情形。

quit的意思和stop相近，用法卻大大不同:
My father decided to quit drinking again. This is the third time this year.
(我爸爸又決定戒酒了。這是今年的第三次。)
Many students quit school when they can't keep up Dacademically.
(許多學生在學業趕不上進度的時候中途休學。)
Let's call it quits.
(我們放棄吧。)
 
要表達「他是認真的。」，可以說He means it.或He is serious (about it).。
"You're going to buy a house? You must be kidding!"
"No, I mean it."
(「你要買房子?你一定是在開玩笑!」「不，我是認真的。」)
 
問別人「你是認真的嗎?」，可以用英文簡單地說Do you mean it?或Are you serious?，也可以加上關係代名詞，說成Do you mean what you say?
