台灣的鬼節

- 這是台灣人的傳統。我們相信死人的靈魂在這個月會回到人間。

小常識
許多國家都有鬼節，例如美國的「萬聖節」(All Saints' Day)，是十一月一日，但慶祝活動都在前一天晚上(Halloween，即十月三十一日晚上)舉行。為人熟知的傳統，包括家家戶戶在門口放一個南瓜燈籠(jack-o'- lantern)，小孩子穿上精心設計的鬼服(costume)，沿街敲門玩 「不給糖就搗蛋」(trick-or-treating)的遊戲。有些城市還會在街 上舉行「道具服大遊行」(costume parade)，爭奇鬥豔一番。

大補帖
explain的意思是「對於~的說明」，本身就已包含「對於 ~」的意味，所以後面不用再加about或on等介系詞。但如果用名詞explanation，那就另當別論了。我們來看下面這兩個例句:
 
You are always late, Mr. Dixon. Perhaps you can explain why.
(迪克森先生，你老是遲到。也許你可以解釋一下。)
Your explanation about the new printer was misleading.
(你對這台新印表機的說明會引起誤解。)
 
台灣人的「鬼月」從農曆七月一日「開鬼門關」開始，到七月十五中元普渡的「盂蘭盆會」、「頭城搶孤」等民俗活動達到最高潮，反映本地人慎終追遠的傳統。
