A little land, a little town, an immense Saviour and His church! Israel Was the Land of Promise, and the Hebrew people were those through which the Messiah was to come - a son of Abraham, a son of David, the City of David which is Bethlehem. From “the House of Bread” would come the One who is “the Bread of life”! He would bring the Kingdom of God among us - a Spiritual place with physical outposts called “The Church" - embassies from which Christ’s ambassadors go forth. “Unto you is born this day in the Town of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord!”

"Good news... great joy!" is what I want for you this Christmas. Many of us look forward to the Christmas season with anticipation. This Sunday we take a look at the psychological role Hope plays in our lives.

Joseph forgives his brothers and restores the family to what it was supposed to be. And yet, they are still not in their garden. Rather than a cyclical story, ending exactly where we began, the bible as a whole shows God’s purposes fulfilled in and through humanity by way of Jesus’s death and resurrection. Throughout it all, the paradox remains: the people carrying the promise – whether the Israelites or the Messiah people after them – are nonetheless infected with the very problem God’s purpose is to solve. Even as we struggle to be faithful to God’s plan, we are called to image God into the world, to accomplish God’s purpose of having wise, renewed humans at the centre, running Creation.

Joseph begins life as a spoilt brat, but becomes wise through years of trial and hardship. Eventually he is ready to be used by God. Are you ready to be used by God?
