Old Millennials Remember Movies episodes

  • Space Jam – OMRM – ep 35 – 1996
Everybody get up, it's time to slam now. We got a real jam goin' down. For so many Old Millennials, "Space Jam" was a significant moment. The biggest sports star in the world - Michael Jordan - heads to the big screen alongside Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd and some cartoon that looks like Daffy Duck, but sure as (expletive deleted) doesn't sound like Daffy Duck.
"Space Jam" was a pop culture phenomenon, but is it a movie?! At least one of our hosts (the one who didn't watch it as a kid) isn't exactly sure. How much mileage can you get out of a five-minute Bill Murray cameo? Quite a bit, it turns out. Angela and Tyler discuss Charles Barkley, the disappointing lack of Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote and that killer soundtrack. We got a Basketball Jones!
    Also discussed in this episode:
    Captain Marvel (2019)
    Free Solo (2018)
2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984)

    Brigadoon (1954)
    Bye Bye Birdie (1963)

  • Street Fighter – OMRM – ep 34 – 1994
The Academy gave "Green Book" the Best Picture trophy this year (yuck), so in protest we watched a movie that might be the exact opposite of an awards-bait drama. It's "Street Fighter" The Movie, a film in which Jean Claude Van Damme enters a street fighting contest and... wait, how is that NOT the plot of this movie? M. Bison (the M. stands for Mister, amirite?) invades the country of Shadaloo, and it's up to a peacekeeping force led by AMERICAN JCVD to take him down. "Street Fighter" spends its first hour working overtime to get all the characters into their ridiculous game costumes. WHERE IS THE FIGHTING? How is Raul Julia able to give such a glorious performance while also being deathly ill? How does this movie exist? Why aren't we writing books about it? How do we get JCVD's stealth Bat-boat?
    Also discussed on this episode:
    A Star is Born (1954)
    Rebecca (1934)
    It Happened One Night (1934)

  • When Harry Met Sally – OMRM – ep 33 – 1989
Men can't be friends with women without thinking about sex. I mean, that's pretty much why Tyler and I had to start dating immediately. And we're married AND best friends now, so I sorta think Billy Crystal had it right. We go back and watch a classic Romantic Comedy, When Harry Met Sally. What did we remember? What did Roger Say? What will Tea Time with Tyler be about? Does it hold up? Tune in to hear us old millennials discuss all this and more.
    Also discussed in this episode:
    Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
(Tyler also talked about Crazy Rich Asians in Episode 11)
    Happy Death Day 2U (2019)
    Isn't It Romantic (2019)
    Black Panther (2018)
    Strike Up the Band (1940)

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)
    The Wife (2018)
    When Harry Met Sally
We dove into the movie at around 25 minutes if you'd like to jump ahead. But our discussions on the above movies are totally worth tuning into, obviously.

  • The ‘Burbs – OMRM – ep 32 – 1989
There's only one way out of a cul-de-sac. Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher might be living next to psycho murderers in "The 'Burbs," but the rest of the neighborhood is full of weirdos, including the brilliant Bruce Dern as a deranged vet, Corey Feldman as a laid-back dude-bro and a domestic terrorist who lets his dog poop all over other people's lawns. Monster. "The 'Burbs" turns 30 this month, but does Joe Dante's horror-comedy hybrid deserve to endure? Depends on how you feel about sardines...

  • Favorites of 2018 – OMRM – ep 31
Fresh off the announcement of this year's (underwhelming) Oscar nominees, the Old Millennials remember and rundown our favorite movies of 2018. Only three movies appear on both Angela and Tyler's Top 10 lists, which means we're talking about lots of excellent films, including the likes of "Eighth Grade," "Game Night," "Roma," "Sorry to Bother You," "A Quiet Place" and much more! Also we play a new game, "Angela Explains It All," featuring that awful, awful 2018 film, "Jurassic Mansion!" Or whatever it's called!

  • Unbreakable – OMRM – ep 30 – 2000 – with Glass – 2019
Before we had 1,000 superhero movies, M. Night Shyamalan stripped the genre bare with "Unbreakable," a thoughtful character study about an ordinary man who, well, can't break. Bruce Willis was actually trying to act, and Samuel L. Jackson brought his A-game. Audiences and critics were, uh, Split, but in 19 years "Unbreakable" has assembled a strong cult following.
With the release of the unexpected "Glass" (a sequel to both "Unbreakable" and "Split"), the Old Millennials revisit a favorite to see how it has endured after almost two decades. At the end of the episode, we also have a spoiler-heavy conversation about "Glass" and how it impacts the "Unbreakable" legacy.
Note: You can listen to the entire "Unbreakable" discussion free of any "Glass" spoilers.

  • Mighty Ducks – OMRM – ep 29 – 1992
Quack. Quack. Quack. Quack. It's a scientific fact that Old Millennials everywhere love "The Mighty Ducks." Consider the classic moments - The Flying V. Eggs on the ice rink. Charlie's penalty shot. Coach Gordon Bombay's DUI arrest? That unusual tickling scene? Okay, so Disney movies were a little different in the 90s. Does "The Mighty Ducks" still soar? Of course it does, but the Old Millennials still need to discuss Minnesota's confusing pee-wee hockey playoff structure and whether or not Emilio Estevez is trying.

  • The Net – OMRM – ep 28 – 1995
It happened to Sandy Bullock. It can happen to you. Computer technology in the 1990s was amazing... just look how fast master programmer Angela Bennett orders that disgusting anchovy-riddled pizza in the opening minutes of "The Net." She seems to have high-speed internet back before that was a thing, so good for her. But technology has a dark side, and before long Angela's entire identity is stolen, including her house, job, and (probably) some leftover anchovy pizza. Maybe it's for the best, because almost nobody in Angela's life even knows what she looks like. Even worse, she used to have an intimate relationship with Dennis Miller. In your dreams, Dennis Miller! The Old Millennials follow Sandy Bullock on the information superhighway of "The Net," or maybe the titular "Net" stands for something far more sinister...

    Bird Box (2018)Aquaman (2018)Mary Poppins Returns (2018)Vice (2018)

  • Jingle All The Way – ep 27 – OMRM – 1996
There are bad Christmas movies, and then there's "Jingle All the Way," a movie worthy of its own awful category. "Normal guy" Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a lazy dad to the future Darth Vader, and comedian Sinbad plays a deranged terrorist. Ho Ho Hilarity ensues. Their kids want rare Turbo Man action figures for Christmas... well Anakin wants a Turbo Man. Does Sinbad even have a kid? He sounds made up. A bunch of insane things happen, Arnold flies around in a jet pack like he's trapped in a Looney Tunes cartoon, and Phil Hartman (RIP) tries desperately to salvage the whole thing. It's a movie so bad in so many different ways, it's almost worth watching.
Note: "Jingle All the Way" hates Minnesotans, depicting the citizens of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area as an angry mob of criminals. The Old Millennials know very well the people of Minnesota are wonderful. Sorry, Minnesota, for "Jingle All the Way."
    Also discussed this episode:
    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)Shirkers (2018)The Night Before (2015)National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)

  • Home Alone – OMRM – ep 26 – 1990
Kevin McAllister is left Home Alone for Christmas, and the Old Millennials don't think it was an accident. We know Uncle Frank is a creep, and that Kevin's brother Buzz is headed for juvie, but let's not forget about absentee father-of-the-year Peter McAllister (RIP John Heard) and the great Milking-of-Kevin's-Airplane-Ticket Incident of 1990. He left Kevin there on purpose! "Home Alone" was a classic growing up, so we have a lot to discuss -- Angels with Filthy Souls, Macaulay Culkin Fever, lazy Chicago cops, the John Hughes Canon, Wet Bandit logic, John Candy (RIP!) improv, deleted scenes and why the snotty pizza guy might be the MVP of the whole movie. Okay, that last one might be a stretch, but it's Old Millennials Remember (Christmas) Movies!
