In this week’s episode, we talk all things Halloween and spooky. Henna explains the history of different traditional Halloween foods from Ireland, such as colcannon and bairín braic. She discusses the significance of each of the hidden items in both traditional foods, such as a ring or a pea. Annaig then describes the Irish vampire, the Abhartach, giving account of the different legends that developed the Irish understanding of vampires, pre-Bram Stoker. She details the legend of the Evil Dwarf from Derry and the legend of Dearg Due.We discuss how these legends and historical understanding of certain events may play into myths and legends such as that of vampires etc.
