In this week’s episode, we discuss personal, national and international updates and news. We discuss our experience with Covid, our travels over the last few weeks and career updates. Annaig provides updates on the Ashling Murphy murder, an Irish lawyer scandal and an Irish court case. Henna then details the imbalance of women working in Irish radio, the steps to improve this and which radio stations are most diverse in their presenting positions. We then discuss the current Russian invasion in Ukraine, the progression of the invasion (at time of recording) and the global response to the crisis.

In the first episode of 2022, we discuss violence against women. Henna discusses the violent attack on a 17 year old girl and her friend in Dublin which has blinded her. Annaig then outlines the known details (as of date of recording) of the investigation into the murder of Ashling Murphy in Offaly. We compare details of the percentages of violence against women and femicide by relationship of the perpetrator to the victim and in what context the violence and/or femicide occurred. We also chat about the discourse surrounding the “not all men” argument.

In this long awaited episode, we cover the topic of incels and the ‘manosphere’. Annaig provides important updates on the case of notorious, Irish convicted murderer, Graham Dwyer and discusses the new legislation in Pakistan which provides much harsher punishment for those convicted of sexual assault. Henna then gives an update on the farming protests in India, and the violence the protestors have been met with. Annaig details the background of the involuntary celibate community, the notorious self professed incels, Elliot Rodgers and Alek Minassian, and the issues surrounding the deep seeded insecurities and hatred towards women found in such communities. She then gives details of a Northern Irish man, who was interviewed for a BBC Three documentary about incels. Henna discusses the terminology used within the manosphere, the idea of the Matrix analogy that is commonly used and the various different groups within these misogynistic communities.
