In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Arun and Patricia continue Keanu Reeves Month by looking back at the 2013 Chinese-American martial arts film Man of Tai Chi. A young Chinese man named Tiger Chen is going through his every day life struggles making ends meet at his delivery job, supporting his family, and getting tai chi training with his master for a tournament. The CEO of a private security firm named Donaka Mark sees Tiger Chen on TV and sees potential in him recruiting him as a fighter in his illegal underground fight club. Tiger Chen accepts not knowing that he's been filmed secretly for millions of people tuning into his life and that he would be killed if he refuses to finish his opponents or if he loses a fight. An officer from the Hong Kong Police Department named Sun-Jing Shi investigates Donaka Mark to learn if he's the one responsible for the fight club and all the mysterious deaths and disappearances of people who were a part of the club. But due to lack of evidence, her superintendent tells her to drop the case. But Sun-Jing made a promise to one of the former fighters before he disappeared to uncover and stop Donaka's illegal underground fight club.

When the movie premiered in theaters, it was a box office bomb making $5.5 million dollars out of a $25 million dollar budget. Critics had mixed to positive reviews calling it a "predictable, one note story", but praised the choreography and Keanu Reeves for both his acting and his first time directing a film. It's currently 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out.

In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Arun and Patricia begin a new themed month based on an actor and their movies: Keanu Reeves. They start with the 2006 sci-fi thriller A Scanner Darkly based on the book of the same name by Philip K. Dick. An undercover cop named Bob Archor with the codename "Fred" is investigating the main source and distribution of Substance D, an addicted drug that causes hallucinations. He lives with two drugged housemates named James Barris and Ernie Luckman and later ends up getting drugged and his personality and lifestyle changes drastically. Things get more complicated when his superior codenamed "Hank" assigns him to surveil the same household that he lives in with hidden cameras with their main target being himself.

When A Scanner Darkly premiered in theaters, it was a box office bomb making $7.7 million dollars out of a $8.8 million dollar budget. Despite that, it was praised due to the acting and the unique rotoscope animation. It currently is rated 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. What did Arun and Patricia think of this film? Listen and find out. 

In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia and special guest Chris "RowdyC" Moore discuss about the animated Disney films from 1943 to 1949 consisting of Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time, and Ichabod and Mr. Toad in honor of Saludos Amigos' 80th anniversary. These slew of films are known as The Wartime Era since they came out during World War II when the European market was very low. In addition, the Walt Disney Animation Studio was going through a strike to unionize their workers with better pay and benefits. In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2022 Disney animated film Strange World. A family called the Clades consisting of an explorer named Jaeger and his son Searcher are traveling around the mountains and unknown lands. One day, Searcher discovers a plant that releases energy. Jaeger wishes to continue exploring while Searcher wishes to settle down and take the plant to their hometown Avelonia to help their community. After a massive disagreement, they go their separate ways. 25 years later, Searcher is a farmer with a wife and son whose discovery has made Avelonia a much easier and advanced town. However, the plant source is dying and he has to explore the unknown lands to find out how to solve the problem before they die out completely. 

When the film came out in theaters, it received mixed to negative reviews making only $72 million dollars out of a $135 million dollar budget making it one of the biggest bombs Disney has released in years. Some people blamed the low box office numbers due to little to no advertisement while others blame it due to its LGBTQ representation in the form of Searcher's son Ethan. In this episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, 90s Christmas Movie Month concludes with a lookback at the 1994 Walt Disney live action film The Santa Clause. A toy businessman named Scott Calvin has to watch over his young son Charlie around Christmas Eve while his ex wife and her husband head out. The night goes uneventful until Scott and Charlie see a man fall from their roof and disappear leaving nothing but his suit and sleigh with reindeer. Scott puts on the suit and delivers all the toys to the children and heads to the North Pole learning from the head elf Bernard that he's the new Santa Claus. Over the course of a year, Scott slowly transforms into Santa and Charlie convinces his mom and stepdad that his dad is Santa, but they don't believe him. Even Scott doesn't believe that he's Santa until his mannerisms, body, and hair changes. 

When the movie premiered in theaters, it received mixed to positive reviews making $190 million dollars out of a $22 million dollar budget. Nowadays, it's a Christmas staple that has 2 sequels and a miniseries on Disney+. The movie currently has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out.
